Mike Conley has agreed in principle to a five-year, $153 million deal with the Memphis Grizzlies.

I like Conley, good solid point guard who runs a team.  But aren't these numbers just nuts?  Great for nba players union to get into the tv $.
Remember when Bradley signed how it seemed like too much?  Side note I feel Conley is at another level BUT man what a diffence.  I think of Cous selling championship items through auction  :'(

Wondering how many teams will  regret tonight's generosity in a couple of years.

I see lots of  teams (Memphis, LAL, Portland) offering much money to players outside the top-20 (well, even outside the top-50  :-\)

mediocre teams have to overpay in order to attract talent, but still, this strategy is unlikely to lead to long-term improvement.

On the one hand, most of these deals are for 4 years.  It's not like back in the day when a bad contract could hang around a team's neck for 6 or 7 years.  On the other hand, expectations are so much tougher now that coaches and players barely get a whole season before people want to get rid of them.

I guess Memphis is content with long-term mediocrity.  Conley is a good player but he isn't leading them anywhere.  Between him and Parsons, that's a lot of money to tie up between two good, but not great, players.

After nine seasons with the Memphis Grizzlies, point guard Mike Conley made the decision to stay put Friday, as he reportedly agreed to sign a five-year, $153 million contract to remain with the only NBA team he has ever played for, according to ESPN.com's Marc Stein.
