When we had Rondo and GREen there was still a small chance we might have built with them but the more this team plays it's becoming clear it's more about finding roleplayers and guys that can do something that stands out that can fit around whatever we can turn all our draft picks into.  We are in full out rebuild mode.  I still am not sure how long it will be but outside of Marcus and maybe a few other guys this team is going to look very different at this point.

everyone i read in this forum is on the Marcus Smart train to all-star status,
but I just don't see it. I think the popular hopes on Smart are really just
a coping mechanism.

Definitely agree with how the roster is going to look by this time next year.  I can't see many of these payers staying around past the trade deadline of next season.  I'd imagine Danny is looking to trade or get rid of Wallace, Thornton, Prince, and maybe Bass (I'd personally keep Bass) in that order more or less.  Guys like Dawkins and Pressey won't be easily tradeable because they aren't quality players.  I believe Turner and Crowder have been solid, and could be pieces of the next playoff run ( Albeit bench guys ).  Smart, Young, Olynyk, and Zeller are all youngish pieces with value for ourselves and perhaps other teams, these guys should be safe for a while.  And Sully and Bradley are both decent players with flaws whom might be better in other systems, Danny will be examining trades for both of these guys for an upgrade.  And that about covers the roster, I can see maybe 4-5 players still here by the end of next season.

I can see Marcus at his peak being MAYBE a 14/6/6 guy with 1.2ish steals per game, and keep in mind Lillard didn't make the allstar game this year... definitely don't see any allstar games for Marcus in his future.  Could be a very good player but I cant see him being a dominant player, hope I'm wrong though.

I more see Smart like Rondo was to our big 3 before.  But a different player. More like dennis johnson.  DJ isn't in the hall to my knowledge although that's debatable.

I see our team now having a decent base and some guys that are going to stick and play minor to pretty major roles but we are lacking those big stars.  We dont have those guys yet.

Ainge kept Rondo and Perk last time and a few role guys like Tony Allen and a few others.  He traded for Posey and we had pierce and got ray and KG.  Right now i see a few guys that could fit on this team.   Totally different situation but you know what I mean.

He's a very good defender.  And obviously he brings the energy and intangibles, which can be contagious sometimes.  Seems like a smart player, too, but unless and until he's able to beat people off the dribble, he'll be something of a specialist.  I like him, but a strictly perimeter based game for a PG will always be limiting.  Getting into the paint and making them collapse just opens things up so much for your team mates.

I made a post the  other day about bradley and young which people misunderstood but that's what i'm doing here is trying to guage who might stick.  Sully, KO, Zeller, Crowder, Bradley, Young all have a chance. EVeryone else not so much.  I think smart will stick personally and be our pg.  But trying to guage things.  Pressey, Turner.  I think everyone has some shot minus Gerald Wallace.  Some more than others.

I think Smart will stick but I don't see him as our starting PG.  I don't think he is a natural PG and forcing him into the role will detract from his defense.  I'm hoping he improves enough to displace Bradley at SG.

The 90s Bulls did not have an all star PG either.

That's a relief. I thought he lived in his fridge.

i don't see it either.  Should be a nice player, but I don't think he will be the face of the franchise.

Face of the franchise isn't on the team yet.
