Short of it Melo's back is being reported as a posible season long issue. Seems like a foundation is being set for a early shut down to Melo's season. I'm not saying that he is faking it but I am saying that rather then play thru any pain I can see the knicks shelfing him to move up in this draft. Their roster isnt winning anything even with him so a "Tank Job" makes sense.

If a terrible team starts tanking halfway through the season, does it make a sound?

I hope so.  One focus this season has become the Lakers possible bottom five finish leaving them keeping their protected lottery pick.  Would love to see 5 teams finish with worse records than LAL.

they have no 1st rnd. pick for this yrs. draft. sooo if they're tanking, they're not too bright.

but let's say they did. I don't think this organization would ever openly tank, it's NY they can't. this organization will never build through the draft, endure bad seasons(willingly) to develop young talent. they might on a minimal scale, but for the most part they'll always trade their young talent for established players(weather they're good or not) and build through free agency.

only way I see the knicks ever turning things around is if another team bails them out by making some stupid decision that favors NY. or a similar situation to Miami where a bunch star free agents get together to play there...and even then I see them screwing that up. glad i'm not a Knicks fan.

That's been a huge commonality in a lot of the threads on the Knicks board, even "gracing" and infused into game thread titles.

there are so many fugazi fan's on here. I don't even care if you are on the tank or no tank badwagon.

I'm even on the tank side and some of these people routing for other teams players to do well and our players to do bad is just some fugazi stuff, weak

The wailing and gnashing of teeth by Knicks and Laker fans is music to my ears.

Probably unintentional, but Fugazi is a great band that more people should listen to.

you can't trade picks in back to back years so if they didn't have one last year, then they have one this year.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Per Scott Davis and I confirmed this in a few other places (unless something has changed in the last few weeks):

Quote
Some fans will point to 2015 as the relief of this moderately successful, but still mismanaged era for the Knicks. New York will have tons of cap space and their 2015 first-round draft pick.

The Knicks may well be tanking.  The race to the bottom is on.... (LAL, PHI, NYK)

I stand corrected. I still think they'll trade the pick.

I won't be surprised if they do end up trading their pick, but I doubt it will be prior to this summer. The pick just won't be as valuable 'in season' as it will be if ends up as a lottery pick.

Melo could end up having a season that plays out exactly as Pierce's 2006-07 season when the C's 'tanked' for Durant/Oden. If the Knicks hold out Melo that roster is pretty bad otherwise, save for a few role players. Too bad the Knicks are the Knicks, and don't have much in the way of good young talent with trade value.

Of course on the night the Knicks play OKC, Westbrook makes his return.  ;D

The Knicks can't trade their pick this year until draft night, unless they get back a 1st in either this year's draft or next. If I were them, I'd think about keeping their pick, trading Melo, and starting over. Not a deal breaker, but one small embarrassment that could occur from that is watching Denver get the 2nd pick in next year's draft with NY being in the gutter. The thing is though, that could happen even if they kept Melo....
