This could help the Celtics.

Once the discount bin is empty, teams will have to move up to the sale items.

This trade deadline might go down as to being one of the quietest ever

Teams are not willing to overpay

Most teams need a boost or they have little to no chance in the playoffs

Woj: Sources: 76ers trade big man to Cavs

Woj says Hawes to the Cavs for Earl Clark, Henry Sims, and two seconds.

Sixers trying to guarantee they stay a bottom-3 team.  Not a fan of Hawes but that's not much of a return for him.

Which is what I said earlier.

My guess is Earl Clark and Henry Sims.  Both non-guaranteed next year.

i look at it the other way...i think that teams will now have a baseline in which to negotiate from.

Two 2014 2nd rounders for a guy they weren't going to bring back? I actually like that for Philly quite a bit.

The 2nds will be two of Cleveland's own, Memphis', and Orlando's. So it could potentially be two picks in the 30s.

One second-round pick would be a typical return for an expiring contract like Hawes.  Getting more than that, even if you have Earl Clark on payroll for next season (instead of waiving his non-guaranteed contract), is a solid return.

Adrian Wojnarowski: Philadelphia has traded Spencer Hawes to Cleveland, league source tells Yahoo Sports. Twitter @WojYahooNBA

Edit: For two 2nd round picks. Looks like Philli couldn't get that first they wanted.

Actually, Philly prolly making this trade to get the first they really want (no. 1 pick of 2014 draft!!)

Two high second rounders and an expiring contract would be a nice get for Hump, so I'm happy if that's the baseline.

I think hawes is more valuable than humphries. Humphries is worth an expiring dead contract like a Ben Gordon, and a singe middle of the road second rounder. ....maybe. But Gordon's extra money would put boston in the luxury tax. That's not worth it for a second rounder.

Humphries is still vastly overpaid. He should be making something in the 4-6 million per year range. I really think his only value is if he is traded for a player with multiple years left on their contract.

Hump might be overpaid, but presumably you're getting back a more useless large contract, since no one (except the Sixers) has the room to take on that much salary.  Hump at least plays defense.

The bigger issue is that there aren't that many contracts out there large enough to match with Hump who are useless, but those contracts exist (Okafor and Gordon being the most prominent, but there are others).

While we're on the subject of Hump, do you guys think Ainge should offer Hump and a second rounder for Evan Turner?

Would give Ainge some additional wiggle room under the lux tax threshold on this year, create a TE equal to the difference between the two player salaries, and would give the C's the option to retain Turner's rights for next season via his QO. (It would be a nearly $9 mil QO, though.)
