Don't think he should be defensive player of the year, but his defensive play this year has been largely overlooked and/or needlessly criticized.

Noah, Duncan, and Paul George are all legit candidates. Garnett isn't.
That's a pretty good top 3 I think. And Howard will probably outpoint KG on reputation, and due to the overemphasis on stats, Ibaka and maybe even Larry Sanders will place over KG too. He'd be lucky to make 2nd team All-Defense, although he deserves it over a few of those guys.
I'd add Marc Gasol to that list too.

Good call. Can't count out Chandler either. Man, the NBA is deep these days...

Any chance KG can win MVP or DPOY ? Say if the c's get up to the 4th or 5th spot in the east and the c's continue to dominate in the second half of the season.
I would imagine Durant and Lebron are his main competition in the MVP race....
no and i really could not care less about INDIVIDUAL ACHIEVEMENTS. I WANT TEAM ACHIEVEMENTS. CHAMPIONSHIPS!

There is no chance he wins MVP.
He SHOULD win DPOY. He should have won it every year from 2000 to now. Who knows if he'll win it. We're a basketball team with an elite defense where he is the only true big man on our team playing more than 5 MPG
Nope ..Ben Wallace/Ron artest/Marcus camby/Dwight howards/Tyson Chandler dpoy year awards were legit....honestly the only year kg should've won..he did....our defense sucked this year until Avery came back
Our defense didn't suck when KG was on the court, even before Avery came back. "Breaking news: Boston can't defend without Kevin Garnett on the floor. They've allowed 94.6 points per 100 possessions when KG plays and 114.2 when he sits, per NBA.com. That's about as large as the current gap between the league's best and worst defenses."http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/8654356/carmelo-anthony-thriving-power-forward-knicks-a-7-1-start

Our defense was bad at the beginning of the season but (albeit in fits and starts) was rounding into shape well before Avery came back. We were probably fairly close to top 10 when he started playing.

Does he have a legitimate shot at MVP or DPOY? No.
Based on team play with him on the court compared to him off the court, could you make a case for both? Absolutely.
We all know Lebron or Durant are fighting it out for MVP with a few other darkhorses in the mix.
DPOY will probably go to T. Chandler, Ibaka, or perhaps Duncan with a few other darkhorses as well.
Because Garnett plays such limited minutes though his production doesn't pop off the stat sheet and he won't even be in the conversation.

Um, no. Not even close.
not even DPOY? What is his main competition ? Ibaka?
Ibaka isn't even in the conversation.
Noah, Duncan, and Paul George are all legit candidates. Garnett isn't.
How is Ibaka not in the conversation? He's been much more in the conversation in recent years than Noah and Duncan. It's a league where awards are won for stastical dominance. As for Paul George, that's a joke. No way he's over Tony Allen and LeBron for perimeter players.
