Yeah yeah yeah

When I talk about balance I am talking about having a strong team to put out there now, Having decent backup and guys young enough to provide continuity

Scalabrine is a very poor basketballer no amount of talk of intangables can convince me otherwise. there is enough smarts in the big 3 and guys like Posey and Powe for the team.

With the bigs for now all they have to do is rebound and get in the way of the opposition both on O and D. You don't have to be a world beater to accomplish that! Perk, Powe and Batista will do fine (+ I did argue that another big body would be nice)

Ok I may just concede it isn't perfect but it's getting there.

At this point

PG  Rondo    House    Pruitt (DL)
SG  Allen    Jones    Allen (inactive till completely healthy)
SF  Pierce   Posey
PF  KG       Scali    Powe       Davis (DL.  Spends the season rebuilding body like Perkins did his 1st year)
C   Perkin   Pollard   Batista

As the season progress, the following changes could take place.

A healthy Allen becomes the 6th man.
Batista take the 2nd C spot.
Pruitt takes the backup PG spot.
Davis or Powe beat out Scali.

As of right now (as stated in the Herald) the lineup is:

Perkins/Batista/Pollard*
Garnett/Powe/Davis
Pierce/Posey/Scal**
Ray/House/Jones***
Rondo/Tony/Pruitt

*Polard is injured, but that shouldn't last long. He will be the backup C.

**Doc just tried Scal at SF instead of Posey. Powe played the backup PF, so I assume he is our backup.

***Jones will probably make it, because Scal is our 3rd string SF, as explained above. No need for Wallace.

I was reading the interview for perkisabeast.com and one question really stood out. I know its a thing most fans are afraid of when dealing with Doc Rivers and his rotations.

PIAB: What do you think the rotation is looking like right now from the inside? Are you going to go like eight or nine guys deep, or are you going to go even farther than that?
PERK: I don’t think we will go any farther than that, either eight or nine in my opinion. At all times I feel like either Ray (Allen) or Paul (Pierce) are gonna be on the court. Your gonna have two of your big three on the court at all times. So while one of them is resting, two of them are gonna be on the court, for sure.

Yeah I read Perks interview as well, but I think the key is who knows what is in Doc's head.. He's proved previously that his rotations are somewhat "unusual" to say the least. Let us hope that Danny is pointing Doc in the right direct....

What's your ideal rotation/minutes?

  • The good ole days.
Here's my ideal scenario (now, it would change depending on game situation, but for the most part this is it... or something similar)

Start
Rondo
Allen
Pierce
Garnett
Perkins

4:00 in 1st quarter
House in for Allen
Big Baby in for Perkins

2:00 in 1st quarter
Posey in for Pierce

Start of 2nd Quarter
Perkins in for Garnett
Allen in for Rondo

10:00 in 2nd quarter
Pierce in for Posey

8:00 in 2nd quarter
Garnett in for Big Baby
Rondo in for Allen

4:00 in 2nd quarter
House in for Rondo

okay... this is harder than I thought.

As far as minutes (240 possible):

Pierce - 38
Garnett - 36
Allen - 34
Rondo - 30
Perkins - 28
House - 24
Posey - 20
TA - 12
Big Baby - 12
Scal - 12
Pollard - 8

Well... there's a 14 minute surplus there.  Obviously we'd all like that to come off the big 3's minutes.    I dunno... do you guys think of this?

That looks pretty good for the most part.  I think Posey should have more minutes- like around 24-28.  I can see Doc playing him a lot at the 4 with KG.  That will cut back on Perkins' minutes, unfortunately, not KG, Ray or Paul.

I know he isn't held in high esteem but, I just wanted to point out that Doc's decision to sit Paul at the end of most the 1st quarters, while leaving Allen and Garnett in and, then bringing him back with and against the reserves early in the 2nd quarter has been a big reason why the C's are 6-0. He's allowing Paul to do what he does best dominate games.  Also it shows Paul's willingness to allow Garnett and Allen lead the team while he sits.  That's what I call win/win scenario.

Teamwork baby.

someone here will find a way to discredit your suggestion that doc's rotation has allowed celts to gain control of  games in the 2ndQ...check the numbers.

the doubters will say the players get the credit -- not the coach.

The only problem I have with Doc right now is the minutes he's using the Big 3.  He needs to talk to his friend Francona about preserving his players for the playoffs.

Giving all three of them 40 minutes (KG 39) in the first game of back to back with NJ being the second game is the issue I have with his rotation.

The game wasn't a blow out, but there was enough of a cushion out there to find each of those guys 2-4 extra minutes on the bench.

I do like that he used the backup C.

It is all situational.  Time, score, matchups, foul trouble for and against. If it gets really tight, Heinsohn can slip Doc a note.
