He is going to be signed to a two year minimum deal, with the second year non-guaranteed.

Happy for him to earn a roster spot on the NBA squad after last year.

Good for him, he earned it.  Let's further reward his hard work by creating lots of the good kind of garbage time.

I was hoping we could lock him up to an Ojeleye-type contract for four years, but this is still a good deal.

Assuming we pick up the second year option he will be a RFA with 3 years of service when this contract ends.

If the C's want to keep him they can, just might cost more than the minimum.

We 'd have to sign him via Bird rights (no pun intended), hence year 1 would start at $1,815,122.

What we did is that we signed him for the vet minimum, hence year 1 starts at $1,349,383.

Assuming we want to avoid the tax this year, I bet Danny is happy to save around $500K.

Will he be an RFA or a UFA? He was a RFA this summer, and AFAIK you can't be an RFA twice.

We will have Bird's Bird rights. Though
I'm bitter.

You can be an RFA twice.  As long as you’re at three years of service you’re an RFA (excepting 1st rounders with declined options.)

so does this mean that if Danny trades him later this year or in the offseason he'll literally be "giving the bird" to the other team?     ;)

I’m a little disappointed in this contract.  I would have hoped for a 4 year deal with more guaranteed given the length.

Not going to sweat it, but he seems like someone who could be useful at the back end of the rotation for multiple years as he develops.  With just a two-year deal, by the time he’s ready for that rotation place he’ll be a free agent.

No, non-Bird means you can sign someone at UP TO 120% of the minimum, not ONLY 120% of the minimum.  Even if non-Bird wouldn’t work, the full MLE was also available.

I am happy for him. Every time I see him play, he is good.

Remember after we lost Hayward, he came in for one game and helped us win it?

I’m guessing Ainge wants to maintain as much cap flexibility as possible over the next two years, with the team running up against the tax penalty and having to re-sign several key guys
