The Boston Celtics have waived swingman Abdel Nader, league sources tell Yahoo Sports.

what does this mean for the celtics salary cap?
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Will probably stretch out the $450k owed him so could save about a million or so.

Save this year but pay it back and more at higher tax rates in the future.

Now let's sign Bird and call it a summer...unless AD or Big Kat become available.
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

Eh. We’re talking about $60k over 7 years.  The extra cost is very minimal.

I’d rather keep the spot open and sign Bird to a 2-way.

Depends what the tax rate is at the time.  Not my money, but it saves roughly $575 in taxes this year which will almost certainly be exceeded in future payments.  If the Celtics aren’t going to get below the tax this year, it’s better not to stretch.

They may not stretch Nader since they're still over the lux tax threshold.

Seemed like a good guy, just not that good of a basketball player. I could see him having success overseas, where he learns how to play without the ball, and then returning to the NBA.

Sure, but tax status isn't calculated until the end of the season. It won't be very difficult for Boston to get under the tax of they want to. Trading Yabu to a team with cap space pretty much gets them there (although Boston would be better served to do so sooner than later, as every day that passes once the seasons starts counts as salary paid towards the tax calculation).

This is incorrect.
