Since pretty much everybody is talking about possible trade scenarios, here's my two cents.

Rozier + Williams(#27) for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander(#11)

The Clips lost Jordan and replaced him with Gortat. Their backup center is Marjanovic. It's only logical to assume that they could have a use for Williams.

Alternatively

Rozier + other asset(s) for Ntilikina

let's say Rozier + Grizzlies 2019 pick

Personally speaking, I really like Ntilikina. Unlike Smart-Rozier, he can play off the ball on both sides of the court.

- 6'5 (possibly without shoes), 7'1 wingspan --> can defend multiple positions
- Decent spot up shooter (solid mechanics --> chances are that he 'll improve over time)

Neither Smart nor Rozier can flourish off the ball. Smart is a terrible shooter. He needs the ball in his hands on offense in order to create for his teammates. Rozier is a better shooter than Smart, but he is a score-first PG. He also wants the ball in his hands in order to create for himself. On the defensive side of the ball, he is a good on-ball defender and that's about it.

So what do you guys think? Would you be willing to do any of these trades?

Nah. I'm thinking the C's value Williams a lot long term. Baynes and Horford aren't exactly spring chickens and Baynes was actually a negative defender in the playoffs last year because of his lack of mobility. Williams is exactly the type of big you want in today's NBA. Keep him until he shows himself totally useless.

And you can get a better player than SGA in next year's draft with the Kings pick..

Just because you keep saying this isn't going to make it true. He shot 36.4% from the field and 31.8% from 3. In addition, his FT%, another indication of potential shooting, was just 72.1%. Besides, the only reason they're playing him off-the-ball, is because they quickly realized he sucked as a PG.

He can guard 3 positions much like Smart, but he definitely doesn't really have a place offensively yet.

He's also super young, I am really confused by why they moved him off ball so quickly. He should be getting minutes at the 1 even if you have moved your evaluation to him being a combo guard rather than a PG.

Really doubt West would trade SGA. I would absolutely give up Rozier to get him.

We cannot keep both Smart and Rozier going forward. Assuming we keep Kyrie-Smart, we either trade Rozier by the deadline or we lose him for nothing next summer.

I'd rather Rozier over Smart. Either way w/ Smarts new contract after Jan 15 we could use in a trade for salary matching w/ others.

Pretty sure the Clippers absolutely are in love with SGA. I doubt they’d part with him for anything less than an established star.

If we just assume SGA can be pried away from LAC, I would go after him.  SGA and Knox were the guys that had low key have star potential IMO as I learned more about them. SGA is 6’6”, a true PG and amazing slasher.

SGA reminds me of Tatum as a frosh- his best was delayed, he rode the bench (like Devin Booker) but then put up 17-7 in the SEC at age 18 as starter.

Better #’s than #5 pick Kentucky PG Fox last year, who I like, and similar freak athlete.

My Initial offer: SGA for Rozier, either Williams or 2019 Celtics 1st.

My Best offer: SGA for Rozier, Clippers 1st, 2 Celtics 1sts (top 20 protected).

I know the 2nd offer is a lot, but Rozier is gone. Think that way, and it’s 3 picks.

I’d spend a likely 2nd rounder + 2 non-top 20 picks on a guy with clear all star potential and combo guard size, who is locked in cheaply for 4 years.

Yeah, I wouldn’t trade him if I were them. If he plays the first 10 games like he does SL, I might even offer Rozier, LAC pick and Memphis pick for him.

I think he’s gonna be a stud. And if he plays well enough for me to offer that, LAC would be fools to accept it. Jerry West is no fool.

EDIT: But man, imagine our 2 cores if our current studs sign team friendly deals:

Present:

Kyrie - SGA
Brown - Smart
Hayward - Morris
Tatum - Theis
Horford - Baynes

Future:

Kyrie - Smart - SGA
SGA - Smart
Brown - Hayward
Tatum - Horford
Sac/Griz Pick - Williams

He still has the big "potential" tag attached, I doubt they would move him. He's shiny and new to the franchise. Let him get some burn on what should be a very bad Clips team to see if he is the stud people think he is..

Yeah, you could be right. But I don’t think his value will dip. I’d make a call now and kick the tires.  See if Jerry wants to play Moneyball.

EDIT: I am in general in favor of consolidating a few draft assets, and specifically hope to dump Yabu and Nader and get under the tax this year.

This off-season is a bit unusual in that the roster is nearly set and it's still just July 20.  However, I understand the automatic off-season impulse to propose trades.  It's all good!   ;D

We wouldn't lose Rozier next summer. We could, but we won't.  We have the opportunity to match any RFA contract he signs.  Or give him his QO and then the following summer he would be an UFA.

We're jumping the gun a bit on having to trade Rozier now or even this season or risk losing him for nothing.
