Same as CE's link for anyone not wanting to click:

Quote
Michael Porter Jr. has undergone  surgery of the lumbar spine at The Carrell Clinic in Dallas, TX. The Procedure was performed by Dr. Andrew Dossett. There is no timetable for his return to basketball participation, Nuggets say.

that's a shame.  I was hoping for his sake he'd be over his injury issues and could play.

Explains why he dropped.  It doesn't seem like a long term issue and something that being fixed when he's young will help his career longevity.  Hopefully that is the case.  Teams in the lottery want players that can move the needle and they can develop.  Sitting out a year hurts but a team like Denver can afford to wait.  If he fully heals they got a steal on their hands.  If not he's a mid round pick and it's not as bad as drafting him top 5-8.

I think before the draft that whomever drafted MPJ should be prepared for him to sit out the entire year. Looks to be the case..

you'd think that would have made him an automatic pick for Philly   ;D
