Wouldnt be surprise to see both Butler and Irving in New York next season
Well, it would surprise me.
Knicks are on the hook for $60M in payroll next year. And that does NOT include Porzingis' likely max extension.
So really their payroll will be more like $86M. And a good chunk of it are deadweight stiffs like Joakim Noah.
It's going to require effort just for them to afford Irving, let alone Butler. They'd need a sign-and-trade for Butler, and they'd need to include deadweight contracts like Courtney Lee and Joakim Noah. Guys nobody wants. This means the price will be high for the Wolves, who want to build a contender. The Knicks don't have the assets to make it worth their while.
And even if they DID complete a trade, the Knicks would be left with a shell of a team. Porzingis, Irving, and Butler is not nearly enough to beat a well-rounded Golden State.
PLUS, the Knicks are a never-ending dumpster fire. Irving has already been in one trashy organization. Why would he leave a loaded team to go to the Knicks? I get he has ties there. But he's only a 3-hour drive away as it is. No-one in their right mind would leave Boston for New York right now.
