Lakers only have the veteran exception available but could create room if Julius Randle is renounced or Luol Deng is waived and stretched. The Thunder have the $5.3M tax midlevel.

Players who want a one year showcase can see the appeal of Lakers.

The Lakers have cap space but it is tied up in cap holds.  Over $88M in cap holds (Lopez, Frye, Randle, Thomas, etc).  I am sure they will clean that all up but even keeping Randle probably puts them over the cap but well below the luxury.

If they are considering Evans, I wonder if they will talk to Smart.

Lakers I'm sure want to maintain cap space for next summer, and Smart is not going to want a 1 year deal.

If OKC gets evans I would think they would cut/buyout Carmelo. He would then probably sign in LA for cheap.

Always loved Evans.

If we sign Smart for cheaper than expected, think we could make a play for him using an exception?

Lebron would finally get at least part of his banana boat crew then.

not really. it just appears that way largely due to the media coverage.

Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Aren't they right up near the cap? What does this mean for Julius Randle?

If they resign Randle wouldn't that mean they are using the mid-level exception, either the room or non-taxpayer?

If I'm Evans I'm looking for at least the full mid-level exception.

He also should want multiple years, and so far Magic has only been issuing 1-year deals. Hard to imagine this working unless Magic really commits to him, Evans only has so many paydays left.

Not without going over the tax threshold.  I don't think it is worth it to go over the tax for Evans after signing Smart.  One or the other but I don't see us getting both.  We would have to sign them both for under $8M (about) assuming we don't do something with Ojeleye or Nader.  Even if we cut both of them, it only frees up $1M or $2M more.

Only the C's can sign Smart to a one year deal.

If we weren't so close to the tax I thought we might work out a one year deal above the QO to make him a bit happier with the situation.

I was just hoping he would t go back to the Grizzlies since we have their pick.  He played great last year for them.
