Wow. Draft day is just a week away. Time really flies (Okay, not really. I really miss watching the C's and since the C's season ended, the period between then and now has been pretty boring, but hey, at least the Lebron/Kyrie/Kawhi/Bamba/Carter, ETC. rumors are keeping us excited and hyped up!) :P

Anyways, what do you predict happens on Draft Day. What kind of scenario do you think happens and if you think we pick a player at #27, who do you think it is?

My guess? I honestly think Ainge trades down for a 2nd rounder and EITHER a future pick of sorts OR some young, cost-controlled player (not a star but a solid one nonetheless - like a role player maybe). I think he trades down to save some cap space, but also because it's possible some guys rumored to be there around #27 could be there in the early-middle part of the 2nd round too, so Danny could fish for an extra asset.

Celtics just pick someone at #27.

People craving "fireworks" are disappointed.

I voted that too, although I also think we acquire a late 2nd for someone to sign to a 2-way contract.

I voted the same but think enough talent drops out of draft that Ainge signs an undrafted player as a 2 way player

Agreed. If we believe that the Celtics will do everything they can to avoid luxury tax this season and then pay Kyrie, Brown, Tatum, and Hayward max money moving forward and be forever in luxury tax, they will need a steady stream of cheap labor (low 1st round picks) to round out the roster. I think they will keep their own first round picks and possibly trade the others away if it makes sense.

Ah, C'mon man...swing for the fences!  Think of how many years we sat around waiting on fireworks only to have sparklers...

...this is the opportunity!  Nobody is expecting us to do anything, Danny is vacationing in a Chipolte in Tahiti, the Celtics ain't going to do anything...

...then BAM!!  Welcome the newest Celtic, (fill in the blank)!!!

Dream big or go home!

;)

I don't get why people still want fireworks... We have plenty of those the past 3 years, and July 4th is coming up soon.  ;) ;D

Trading up is easier said than done

We are simply going to pick at 27, then buY a 2nd rounder for cash

I agree, we've been down this road before. Very doubtful we'd be able to move up.

Judging by last year, fireworks could come later. Nothing would surprise me.

I think Ainge will try to trade into the top ten and there will be a million rumors about it and this board will be extremely busy, but in the end, nothing will happen and we'll pick at #27.

Agreed. Ainge is always known for doing due diligence. I have a feeling the Clippers will package some of their picks to move up... Would the Clippers and Grizzlies bite on the 4th pick for Parsons in exchange for Tobias Harris and Patrick Beverly and picks #12 and #13?

It would suck to eat Parsons contract, but if they are out of the running for the LeBron sweepstakes, and would allow them to rebuild considering DeAndre Jordan isn't going to sign with that team. It gives them the potential to draft a franchise player, and they could re-sign Rivers/Bradley as a young core to move forward with.

Grizzlies do it, because it gives them flexbility to upgrade positions based on 12/13th pick along with getting Beverly a defensive minded PG for backup, or to start alongside with Conley, and Harris could be slotted at their forward spot.

That trade would be a coup for Memphis. An absolute coup.  Get two very useful players on expirings, save $25 million next year, get two late lottery picks, and create enough space under the tax to sign Tyreke with the MLE?  All for #4??  If that happens, no one should ever mock Chris Wallace again.

Do you think it's possible? Clippers are clearly not going to contend. I think they should rebuild or re-tool. Doncic or whoever falls at 4 would be a perfect consolation prize.

Grizzlies might have to throw something else in as a sweetener, or maybe some more future picks. But it could certainly help them since their agenda is to make the playoffs.

I don’t think it’s possible, no.  I think the Clippers very much want to contend.  Their franchise history only includes like 8 playoff appearances, and they’ve never made it to the conference finals.  Ballmer paid a huge amount of money, and it wasn’t to have everybody laugh at the Clippers again.

And I think it’s a terrible value deal on top of it.  Paying $50 million for the #4 pick straight up is already tough.  Giving up other assets on top of that?  No way.
