I think we can all agree that the most star-studded positions are PG (Kyrie, Steph, Westbrook) and SF (Lebron, KD, Kawhi). And while the game has become more and more positionless, we can still identify players to have a traditional position as their primary one. So which right now do u think is the weakest position in the league?

My take? I think it’s the SG slot. Seems crazy as the likely MVP this year (Harden) is an SG but from a talent crop, it seems to be the weakest position right now imo. The best SGs aren’t as multi-faceted or as impactful as the top players in the other positions.

Guys who know what the score is after they grab an offensive rebound.

Agree. The best SG’s are Harden, DeRozan, Klay and Butler I’d say. Harden is even debatable as he’s often described as a PG
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

Center, without a doubt, imo. Most of the guys who ostensibly play the position, today, have absolutely no skill, offensively, as they're only on the court because they can "move their feet" ::), not to mention the fact that too many of them can't even make free throws, which is beyond absolutely pathetic, imo.

Granted, it's nice to see guys like Embiid, Towns, and Marc Gasol, out there, as at least they have actual skills, but too many big guys are in the league simply because of their quickness and athleticism, imo. Among recent playoff teams, look at Clint Capela and Rudy Gobert, for example. Neither one of those dudes could even score in the post when being guarded by a POINT GUARD, ffs. That's simply atrocious, lol ;D. I can find you better talent in the G League ::).

The Centers these days are leaning more towards shooting 3's compared to the old days like Dwight Howard or Shaq.

Traditional centers are the weakest imo. Most vulnerable to target.

Seriously, you would think an NBA Finals team could put five guys on the floor who can keep track of the score. That doesn't seem like too much to expect.

Back to the Basket Post Players.

It would be very interesting to see a team build their team to play a more traditional style with more defined 3, 4 & 5 positions. Put a post-dominant team with shooters at the guard and small forward positions and see how all these finesse teams handle it.

New Orleans could have played that way if Cousins and Davis would buy in and grind inside like McHale & Parish. Gotta have very good post players to make it work. Pound hell out of the offensive boards and be able to kick it out of the post-ups to perimeter shooters when doubled.

Russell - Cowens - Bird - Garnett

The Four Celtic Lieutenants:
Cousy - Havlicek - McHale - Pierce

Pity their perimeter guys can't actually shoot all that well and Howard's post game is overrated.

Mmm, they try to play that way. The problem is that Dwight isn’t a great post up player and their shooters can’t really shoot. Thus, putrid offense. Kemba Walker is getting it done because he’s just that dang good

I wrote SG, just because apart from a few exceptions, most traditional Ray Allen run-through-20-screens then catch and shoot, are fairly average. (Apart from Klay) Kyle Korver may still be the best true shooting guard in the league.

Also, take Jaylen for example, despite formally being the starting SG, it is clear that his role is more of a SF, same with CJ McCollum: most 2's are really just an extra small forward. So in that sense the position no longer really exists.

Yup, the center position without any question in my mind.

Center and Shooting guard could use a talent bump.
