Today President Trump signed a "Right to Try" bill which means terminally ill people can try non FDA approved alternative medicine or treatment.  It keeps the government out of your business so that you can try something that might help you.
Only 22 Democrats supported the bill.  The majority of Democrats hate Trump so much that they voted against terminally ill people from seeking alternative treatment.  This is disgusting.

There can be serious repercussions with this in "the what if" a lot like net neutrality. I havent read it but just wondering like what if certain drugs or treatments are not submitted to be approved purposely due to know side effects (the drug creators motive). Or even by pressure of insurance companies that don't want to cover the cost of advanced medicines (remains available only for the rich). Again haven't read it but there may be loop holes voters didn't like.

BS republican propaganda.  The FDA already has a process in place whereby any patient can circumvent FDA approval for ANY drug treatment in life threatening situations, with a 24 hour response time.  Trump did nothing, then paraded  it on Twitter like he’s some kind of hero.  The truth is that the overwhelming majority of non-approved treatments are either ineffectual or detrimental to patient health, which is the entire purpose of the FDA.  Yes, we all know there was 1 kid whose life was saved, and a life is immeasurable, but this isn’t a bi-partisan political issue.  In effect, Trump opened the door to a bunch of “holistic health” nutcases who want you to buy BS natural remedies for your brain tumor.

Yeah, an argument based on a Federal powergrab (albeit silly in this case) could theoretically be sustained (given that essentially Trump has taken power from New Mexico, Kansas, New York and a few others).

There are serious problems with the expansion. Here is a fairly even-handed assessment:

I’m not sure this is accurate. Doesn’t the law require initial FDA approval? Does the FDA give approval to holistic health nutcases pitching natural remedies?

There are compassionate use cases where people can get onto drugs currently in clinical trials, though this is primarily for if the drug in development specifically treats your disease/indication.

Right to try I believe could open it up where if a drug company thinks they are seeing some benefit in a subsection of patients other than the primary endpoint people can now try the drug

I feel like people shouldn't have to be terminally ill to choose their own treatment.

These people are terminally ill.  They are going to die and be in a lot of pain.  They have the right to CHOOSE what ever they want.  YOU or the federal government should not dictate what they want to do.  This is the problem of the Elitist left. They think they whats best for you.

It's obvious your hatred for Trump has clouded your sense of reason.  Terminally ill people who are going to die, should be able to pick what ever they want.  It shouldn't be up to the government or YOU to decide.

There's already a method for people to access these 'treatment' options in place and that's in conjunction with what the FDA's process is.

Also, people can have access to that 'treatment' already for the most part -- they just have to pay for it out of their pocket.  nothing really stopping them provided it's not deemed harmful or illegal.   If someone wants to try those experimental options, the issue seems to come back to who is going to pay for them.  If they're not approved by the FDA, I'm actually ok with Medicare/Medicaid not footing the bill.  (I can understand some wiggle room for medications that may be in the human-testing phase but prior to that, no.)

On a further note, private insurers follow FDA and Medicare guidelines regarding acceptable medical treatments for conditions in determining what they can/should pay for so in this situation they'd also be unlikely to foot the bill for treatment that's not FDA approved.   As someone who has to pay part of my insurance premium, I'd be very concerned if my rising insurance costs are going to fund someone's wing-and-a-prayer treatment.

what if what they choose causes harm to people that are not them or costs others a lot of money.  It is never as easy as you can do what you want.

I do also find this line of logic strange from a party that is anti-abortion, anti-gay marriage, and other things that really are about one person (or two people) and has absolutely no affect on someone else.

I feel like people shouldn't have to be terminally ill to choose their own treatment.

In theory that makes sense but think about the other half - should people have to be licensed to administer medical treatment, and should those treatments be established as safe? You're opening the door to a lot of suffering and death if the answer isn't yes.

The math of course shifts some when the patient is likely to die soon or is in intense suffering, but it's a very good thing that we vet treatments and require training for people who administer them.
