I mean, I'd love Dwight Howard especially if he came off the bench (lol), but you really think he's signing here for an exception??  :P

Some team will give him a decent sized contract despite how much of a headcase he can be.
TP. Howard is still putting up 16/12 and thinks he's a number 1 scoring option. He's not taking an MLE contract

Exactly.

But hey, if he's willing to take the exception (and pay cut) and legitimately compete for a championship w/a starting core of Kyrie-Brown-Tatum-Hayward-Horford and having an elite coach like Stevens, by all means sign him!

Then again, I think a reason Horford didn't go back to ATL despite getting offered a near-max to stay was BECAUSE they signed Howard, so idk if he'd like Howard here tbh. But if he's coming off the bench and putting his ego aside, I think he'd (Horford) be fine with it.

Howard is definitely capable of putting up the numbers and grabbing rebounds at will.

Barea's not a free agent just FYI.

I could see a potential sign-and-trade for Tyreke Evans involving either Smart or Rozier.

My ideal back-up big for Horford would be Derrick Favors. He'd be terrific on this team given his familiarity with Hayward. It may not be realistic, but as we all know, Danny Ainge swings for the fence.

Dwight is the guy. He'd be a perfect fit- wouldn't have to play a ton, but could come in as a mismatch off the bench behind Horford.
He would be a perfect fit for us but we would be a terrible fit for him.  Nothing in the role you described would be ok with Dwight.

Howard is a bad fit for what style we play too.

Is Durant a FA this summer? He's taken a paycut to play for a contender before, maybe he'd do it for us, too
I'm bitter.

And according to Basketball Insiders, Howard is under contract to Hornets for 23 million next year.

Pretty sure he's becoming a FA this offseason strictly for the purpose of restructuring his contract.

Also would feel super dirty having KD here.

I'm pretty sure Jim was kidding. The C's can't afford Durant.

Honestly, what kind of roster space will the Celtics have this summer? I want Smart resigned (on a decent deal), I'd love to see Baynes back, Shane Larkin is a perfect 3rd PG, and Monroe is the exact type of veteran ring chaser that the Celtics might want to be targeting so if he'll accept what the C's can offer him and he can keep filling the "big-man scorer off the bench" role, that doesn't leave much space on the roster even after letting Nader walk.

And that's without talking about Kadeem Allen, Jabari Bird, or the #27 pick.
