We HAVE to trade Hayward for him. Here's why..

We can't have Hayward, Tatum, Kawhi and Jaylen. We can't add another wing.

We all love Tatum and want him to develop, having Hayward and Kawhi will seriously stunt his growth.

I would MUCH rather have Tatum than Hayward, so this is a way to keep Tatum.

I would MUCH rather have Kawhi than Hayward, Kawhi is a top 5 player.

We wouldn't have to give up much more than Hayward. The Spurs are in a tough spot and will be forced to trade him, so their return will be less. I think Hayward and Rozier could be close to getting it done, I'm sure it would take a little more..

This also leaves us with our top assets, our picks and youth.

In a perfect world, I would agree with you.

But it would be disastrous PR wise to do such a thing.

Then again, there was the IT trade.

Yea I think the whole "you cant trade someone you just signed" thing is a bit over-used.

If it makes sense it makes sense. If Hayward would be happy playing in SA with Pop, and Im sure he would, its not a big deal.

Players would know that DA has the best interests of the team, and always trying to get better. If you have a chance to get Kawhi you have to take it. And future FAs will know we are always trying to improve. They just will make sure to have a no trade clause.

If we trade for Leonard, it'll cost us at least one of Brown and Tatum.  There's a good chance that it costs us both if other teams bid the price up.  I'd be pretty hesitant to pull the trigger on the deal if that's the case, but this is a top 5 player we're talking about.

There won't be a logjam anywhere.

No, there is a difference. Hayward was wooed, recruited as a FA, just this season. IT was acquired via trade and has played multiple seasons.

If Boston is recruiting you, would you still sign knowing what they did to Hayward?

There's also the fact that it will antagonize Stevens, your best asset, because you traded away his favorite player.

yeah I was confused as to how Boston was going to acquire Kawhi without giving up at least 1 of those 2 if not both.

I am not opposed to trading for Kawhi but not for Hayward, he is untouchable imo at the moment.
Great Guy, ALL Star, Brads guy, would kill PR

TP for the Pokemon reference! And I agree about enjoying what we have. I am super pumped for tonights game. As far as next year, I like what we got currently. Being greedy and wanting more and more without seeing what you currently have is not a great idea, imo

Even Ainge isn't that cold blooded. We get our 2nd big free agent in 10 years who came to play for his college coach, and you trade him to the spurs before he ever plays 1 full game in the garden? No one would ever choose to come to Boston

They're not trading Hayward for a slew of reasons. We would all love a healthy Kawhi but the reality is we don't need a wing player we need an athletic big that can rebound when you have Irving, JB, Hayward and Tatum all on the floor together. Obliviously AD is the dream player at this point but I doubt we can get him without giving up JB/JT.

At this point Danny needs to hope he can find that player in the draft even if we have to trade with our list of assets.

This is thread is based on the flawed premise that San Antonio won't be able to get a good value on a Kawhi trade. In reality, it's 100% at least one of Jaylen or Jayson outgoing for Kawhi.

IT never signed with us as a free agent though. He was a flawed player who we picked up in a trade for cheap and Stevens turned him into an mvp candidate. We didn’t want to pay him mvp money so we moved on. Totally different.

If we trade Hayward this summer we kill our chances of signing a good free agent for at least the next ten years.

We might even lose Stevens from such a move

We are just too late for Kawhi trade. Positions in paint are only discussible.

TP as I agree with all of this.

Add to these reasons the pragmatic one that Hayward’s value after coming off a catastrophic injury is significantly less than it once was, at least till he proves himself, and perhaps forever.
