I find it amazing that this draft class is being heralded as the best since 03, in which the three standouts were LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony and Dwyane Wade. This years class also has three standouts, the point-forward Ben Simmons (LeBron James), the smooth scoring Jayson Tatum (Carmelo Anthony) and the undersized uber athletic scoring guard Donovan Mitchell (Dwyane Wade).

I cringed at Carmelo for a Tatum comparison.

Take it back!

The only one that really stands up is Mitchell to Wade, but Mitchell is a considerably worse passer

Tatum and Simmons are very different to LeBron and Melo

I've thought Tatum reminded me of Carmelo since the Summer league.  He has all those isolation moves that Carmelo built his career on.  Carmelo looks stronger around the rim, but Tatum looks like he will be a much better driver and ballhandler from the perimeter and in transition.  Probably a better shooter too, and a much less selfish and more self aware player.  Pretty awesome stuff considering Carmelo will be a Hall of Famer.

I share your take. I'd add that he is also better defensively, finer instincts, longer.
Looks mentally tougher too. Melo seeks for unwhistled calls, looks for an excuse not to run on d and will demand a trade when a good opportunity presents itself.

03 class is better for one reason:  Simmons is not close to James, and never will be. The comp is laughable.

Pretty much. Simmons has been in the NBA 2 years, playing for 1, and still has a lesser arsenal compared to LeBron in high school

Mitchell I'd also a much worse defender.

That isn't a shot at Mitchell - Wade was just that good defensively (and made an all-defensive team his sophomore season)
I'm bitter.

Forgot about that, TP. He really was an amazing player back in the day. Too bad he’s an ass

It’s amazing how little respect Bosh gets.

Does Fultz play the Darko role?

'03 Draft had some 2nd round gems.

Obviously, the jury is still out on this one.
