Never saw this particular site's NBA lottery odds. If I'm reading this correctly it looks like the Lakers, at their current record, would have about a 2% chance of landing the 2nd or 3rd pick.

What's surprising is that it appears (at least to me) that they have 0% chance of landing the 4-9 or 4-10 picks. Am I reading this right?

Yes, that is correct. They only draw the lottery for the top 3 picks, and then they are reverse slotted after that.  So, the Lakers pick could only be 1-3 and then like 10 and on.

As far as we are concerned, the Lakers will finish with either the 10th, 11th or 12th worst record (they are battling Charlotte and Detroit). For the pick to convey to Boston it can only be 2 or 3.  The odds would break down as follows:

10th:  2.9% chance of conveying
11th:  2.1% chance of conveying
12th:  1.8% chance of conveying

If they are currently in the 10th slot, 4-9 makes sense as 0% (I think) because I think they could only get #10 (or later), or #'s 1, 2, or 3 (after the 1st 3 picks are selected by lottery, the rest go from there in the order of record).

2% for 2nd or 3rd is lower than I would have thought.  But, I guess that's probably correct.

After the year of injuries we’ve had, I think we’re entitled to have that 2-3% chance come in.
