Shabazz Muhammad has agreed to a contract buyout with Minnesota in hopes of signing with a playoff contender, league sources tell ESPN.

Have to think we would have interest in Shabazz, who would be a definite upgrade over Semi.

I'm not thinking he will be signed by a playoff contender.

And I don't think he is an upgrade over Semi.

Not only is Muhammad a bad defensive player, but he's an inefficient black hole on offense. Some team will take a flier on him to see if he can get more consistent, but I hope it is not the Celtics.

Yeah I hope not either... we have a better version of Shabazz in Marcus Morris

Yeah, I don't hate it.  Maine Red Claws are at the bottom of their division.  Maybe some fresh blood will help.

I have rarely watched a player who cares less about passing, rebounding, defense or anything besides getting to shoot the ball. One of the worst team players in the NBA, no question.

He's not a good defensive player, but I would hardly say he's inefficient. He's not a 3pt shooter, but he's shot 47% from the field for his career.

As for Semi, it's hard to not be better than him. In February, No-J-eleye shot 24% from the field and 18% from 3's, while averaging 2.1 PPG in in an ample amount of playing time (18.7 MPG).

We've had a few of those types (Crawford, Turner, etc.) come through under Stevens and they improved a lot, at least while in green.

Ojeleye has obviously earned minutes from one of the best coaches in the NBA -- he must be doing something right.

In other news, Ojeleye's one-on-one defensive chops continue to be underrated on this forum.

Not saying he is a star, but I'd rather bring in a player like Ojeleye who can defend at a high level and play within an offense than bring in a player like Muhammad who shoots every time he gets it and plays no defense.

Really? I think the opposite is true. Nobody overrates his defense more than this forum. I mean some were calling him the Giannis stopper.

The Celtics have reportedly had interest in Muhammed in the past

There is absolutely no way Stevens gets rid of Semi for Shabazz, and there is no reason why he should. Semi can guard 4 positions and plays team ball, Stevens feels confident enough to rely on him in key situations. Shabazz is a selfish, useless, immature player who belongs in China.

Semi isn't going anywhere but his offense is atrocious and his defense is severely overrated. His defensive rating is the worst on the team. His DBPM is 10th on the team just ahead of reknown defensive rotation players Larkin, Morris, Irving and Nader. He's had +/- monthly stats of -1.8, -3.6, -12.7, 7.4 and -5.6. The offense is 9.1 points worse per 100 possessions when he is on the floor and the defense is 2 points worse when he is playing. He is basically non-existant in rebounds, steals, blocks per game and has awful rebound percentages.

I wouldn't want Mohammed but I cringe when I see Brown and Tatum on the floor in first halves with just 11 or 12 minutes played while Semi gets 12-13 minutes. And that happens a lot.

To add to this, spacing is also an issue. I'm seeing players now completely sag off him daring him to shoot. This allows them to be in better position to help defensively. Also, for some reason, Semi doesn't really seem to know where to be on offense. We usually hide him in the corners, but I constantly see teammates yelling at him to go to the weak side of the floor.

I don't see Semi's going anywhere either, at least not this year, but Nader is horrible and Muhammed is only 1 year older than him. Why not take a chance on a player that is better and can potentially contribute during the playoffs?

OP: Shabazz Muhammad is gettin' bought out, fellas.  The Celtics are obviously going to give him a good look.

Unanimous response:  Shabazz Muhammad sucks at basketball.  No.

OP: Nuh uh, because... Semi!

;D   ;)  I do think hopes were high for Shabazz when he first came out.  But he really hasn't shown anything.

I didn't know this, but apparently he rejected a 4 year/$40 million deal from the TWolves iwith the exploding cap in 2016.  That was a tough gamble.  He's now on a 2 year, vet min contract.

What an odd post.

Obviously the goal would be to upgrade the team. If I felt comfortable with Semi, or we had some certainty that Hayward would return, then the addition wouldn't be needed. But yeah, Semi getting playing time and firing away in the playoffs doesn't inspire much confidence.

Fear not Semi fan, the Bucks are signing Shabazz.
