Steve Nash deserves to be in hall of fame.  Did he deserve the mvps while not playing the best defense....I don't think so but mvp is what it is
rose no way

Nash will be a HOFer.

Barring an amazing late career comeback, Rose will not.

Nash definitely gets in.

The fact that Tracy MacGrady made it in makes me wonder if Rose has a chance.

FWIW, Basketball Reference has Nash's HOF probability at 98.3%.  61st overall.

Yeah, he's getting in.
the HOF probability is that high because of the 2 MVP's.  Steve Nash finished his career with 14.3 ppg, 8.5 apg, 3.0 rpg.  He was a very poor defender (like IT poor levels at points in time).  No Finals appearances.  8 all star games and 7 all league teams (3 first team) are nice, and obviously the 2 MVP's (whether he should have gotten them or not) are also nice, but I do question whether or not he was good enough long enough to be in the HOF.

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

If John Stockton made it, there's no doubt that Nash is making it as well.

The fact of the matter is that he has those two MVPs.  No one is taking them away from him now and I assume that almost no one is going to dwell on the questions arising around said MVP campaigns back then.  He has them.  They're not going away.  That's part of the resume.

He's a HOFer.  It's gonna happen.

Since I'm lazy - are there other examples of HOFers who had a big MVP year but then had their career derailed by injury?

Nope. I looked into myself, and even posed the same question 2-3 years ago when Rose was on the steady decline, and everyone seemed to agree that Rose is the only one.

TP, thanks. It's a little surprising, honestly.

Also I remember distinctly watching the NBA that year and thinking... Derrick Rose is a beast but I still think Lebron is the MVP. I think a lot of people felt that way.

Lebron probably should have won about 6 MVPs in a row. Its much like MJ. He should have won about 8. But the MVP voters get sick of giving it to the same guy so try to go out of their way to give it to others.

I agree, Rose didn't deserve that MVP. Nash probably didn't deserve his. But they got them so you can't that away from them when considering their candidacy for the Hall.

Nash is in. Rose might be the first MVP to not make it but it will be because of the disingration of his game and not because he didn't deserve the MVP.

Derrick Rose is not going to the hall of fame.  Steve Nash is.

Do you think Stockton shouldn't be in?

I think Rose would have had a chance if he'd been able to rebuild his career as a solid role player for good teams a la Grant Hill, but if as seems likely he's done before his 30th birthday and never made it past the Conference Finals, it seems like a hard sell.

I don't have a whole lot of concern about HOF or who gets in, but my gut response to the thread title was -- Nash is a definite HOFer.

Nash is definitely. No question in my mind about him.

I expect D-Rose to be in too although it will probably take him awhile to get the call. They put in Maurice Stokes (3 year career). I expect at some point they'll put in Rose as well. He was the league MVP after all. And he would've went on to have a terrific career if not for injuries.

Yep.  And Rose has a 10.5% probability, which puts him sandwiched between Al Horford and Deron Williams in likelihood.  Not a good place to be.  I think the better question in this thread is if Rose will get in.
