An Ego big enough to manage 3 Hall of famers... Nah not important at all..  Of course, We don't win it without him but other than that. Not a big part.

Rondo wasn’t really the manager of that team. The title team shared the ball a lot more, rather than relying on Rondo as a floor general.
I think that sells Rondo short a little bit. That said his primary value was probably as a defender that year.

I don’t think it does at all.

Rondo: 5.1 assists, 18.9 Usg%
Pierce: 4.5 assists, 24.8 Usg%
KG: 3.4 assists, 25.5 Usg%
Ray: 3.1 assists, 21.6 Usg%

The team fairly evenly distributed the ball. In later years, as Rondo became more ball-dominant, the offense got worse.

I think Rondo becoming more ball dominant have something to do with the Big 3's game declining.

He pushed the pace of the Celtic offense. At this point in his development, he was trying to fit in, get to the rim and find the open man. He was a few years away from the guy who dribbled the air out of the ball looking for the assist.

You could make the point it was Rondo as he should have been throughout his Celtic career.

You are correct that we didn't rely on him to orchestrate everything, but he did have a pretty high level of responsibility.

He got the ball where it needed to go. He also fit in well with that team because his points came mainly on drives to the basket.  Allen was mainly a perimeter shooter, KG was not really much of an inside scorer, and Perk was a non-contributor offensively.  Only Pierce could create offense driving to the basket so Rondo was a nice compliment to that.

Without him they wouldn't have won the title - just like they wouldn't have won if any of their starters went down for a long period of time.  So I'm not sure you can can rank him or any of the other starters, so at worst he's 5th.

All I know is that in Game Six, Rondo played like a man possessed.

Ray Allen was on fire in Game 6 of that '08 squad.

I do remember Rondo having that superstar performance in Game 2 of the 2012 ECF. Too bad the refs gave that game to the Heat.

All about the Big 3 that year in their primes. 2009-2012 is a different story though.

The 08-09 team would have repeated except KG got hurt.  They were dominating like they had the year before until he went down.  09-10 was good enough to win except Perk got hurt in Game 6 and then the refs all of a sudden started calling fouls on everyone who breathed on Kobe in the 4Q of game 7.  The real decline came when Ainge let Tony Allen leave in free agency that off season.  All of a sudden they had no bench.

Rondo was the 4th most important player on that team. He led the team in assists and steals and was the second best defensive player on the team. He was also the second best shot creator on the team. And he was only 21 through most off the season.

He was important. His game 6 versus the Lakers with all the spotlight on him at 22 years old:

21 points
8 assists
7 rebounds
6 steals
+24.

He didn't show it all the time but you could see he was going to be special, if only for a few years.

House?  Brown?   They averaged 2.5pts and 2.9pts in the playoffs.

I’d say he was 5th behind Posey. We know KG was the heart and Pierce the soul, but Posey was the backbone.

I think Rondo was important to the title run but not exactly integral. I think there were many PG’s that season who could have been plugged in to that lineup and not seen any slippage (or be an upgrade).

He took a leap the next season and especially in the playoffs without KG.

2008 was pretty unremarkable, IMO.

Almost as important as the Posey man-hugs.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

I think Game  One of the ATL series he was vital, he was critical in Game Five  of the CLE series  and was had a few solid performances against the Lakers.

For those who can't recall here are the game logs.
