The United States best sports during the previous Olympics were free style skiing and snowboarding.

In a preview by Dutch television it was said that Americans and Canadians are so good at snowboarding, because it's the main way of transportation during the winter since most villages can't be reached by main roads due to ice and heavy snow.

They claimed that in the winter months about half of America is dependent on snowcouriers who bring goods like food and medicines from the big cities to the smaller villages who have no airfields. Sometimes they have to go through the wilderness (even at night) and get in such precarious circumstances that they develop extremely deft skills. So the conclusion was that it's fairly logical that America and Canada dominate these sports.

I'm a critical viewer and I'm not sure if their report was trustworthy. It seems a little strange that such a rich country is unable to provide better infrastructure for its citizens. I really would like to know if all this is true.

Anybody else watching the half-pipe skiing event? While it's great to see the United States doing very well (Wise and Ferreira just finished 1st and 2nd), there have been a couple of horrible falls. It appears those guys should be okay, though.

With Shaun White and Chloe Kim taking gold in the snowboard half-pipe (and Sigourney of the U.S. even getting a bronze in women's ski pipe), the U.S. should petition all future Winter Olympic events take place in a half-pipe!  :P

Edit: Not to mention Jamie Anderson's Gold in Snowboard Slopestyle and Silver in Big Air. Perhaps the U.S. just needs events where tricks are done in the air (although I am sure Nathan Chen wishes he could get back his short skate program).

yep the day after the US women beat the Canadians for the Gold medal, the US men's curling team beat Canada in the semis, the Men's Canadian team took bronze in the short track relay (after leading with like a lap to go).  Not a good couple of days for the staple sports in Canada.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Hey, did anybody else notice Abby interview the gold medal cross country ski team sprint winner immediately after the race the other day?  Working for NBC covering an event that wasn't supposed to be anything, but she was great as usual. Our local broadcast team with Gorman, Scal, and Abby is as good as any national broadcast team any day. Really.  They should get their own banner or something.

But props to Abby. Well deserved career bump.
