He is not in the right place or space to help the Cs right now. He gotta get right in a place where he can showcase himself and get a new contract. Maybe that is LA, or Sacramento or Orlando or something.

I don't want him back even if he does get bought out.  He'll likely just be a problem in the lockeroom.

Absolutely, he'd come back thinking this was his team still.  He'd destroy all the chemistry these guys have.

So Basically you want to Break IT and then watch him as a broken man play on our bench? You want to force him to watch the man we traded him for flourish in his old spot and tell him to like it or we will cut you again..  You want to take the chip he plays with and force him to eat it...
You want to tell the man who gave us his heart and hip that he is no longer good enough to start in this league but here is a nice comfortable seat for you... You might play or you might not but we want to watch you sit there because many of us believed you were not starter quality anyway...

Is this really what you guys want?

Let go people..  When he was all about the Celtics we sent his butt to Cleveland..  There is no way you can ask him to come back for the Celtics and sit at the kiddie table.. Everybody has a breaking point.

It would truly be the saddest thing in the world watching him sit down at the end of our bench.

I think he would be a mistake for him to come back. I'm one of IT's biggest fans from his time here and he changed the trajectory of our franchise when he came and I will always be grateful for those fun moments he provided to us - the 50 point game, the game where he played a day after his sister's death, etc. He was a driving force behind our success.

BUT were he to return he would have to accept a different role from what he used to play for us, in a time when he is playing for a max contract. Anyone who thinks he would be willing to come off the bench as a super sixth man and defer to Kyrie, who was responsible for him losing his spot in the first place, after years as the top dog in the same team, doesn't understand the concept of pride in sports. I think it would be a major source of tension in the locker room and would totally ruin the chemistry and dynamic that the Celtics have built.

IT found it hard enough to defer to LeBron in Cleveland and LeBron is an all time great who has been with Cleveland for years - can you imagine him deferring to Kyrie, the upstart who took his spot as The Man in Boston? They are both ball dominant players and I don't think we have room for both players.

IT will flourish in a situation similar to what he was in in Boston before - as the alpha dog in the team. Bringing him back into our situation now is a team culture and team fit disaster waiting to happen. This would only work in NBA2K where the players you trade back and forth don't have actual feelings.
Any odd typos are because I suck at typing on an iPhone :D

If I'm Brad Stevens and Danny Ainge and this possibility presented itself I'd say to IT something like

"We have good news and bad news. The bad news is we won't pay you much this year, and we probably can't bring you back next year, and you'd have to be a 6th man.  The good news is you get to take the winning shot to beat the Cavs and get to the finals.  It was gonna be Kyrie, but he has agreed to let you take it. We've already drawn it up. Would you like some revenge against the Cavs?"

If people put egos aside this is a total slam dunk win win

Put me down under the HELL NO category. He isnt better than Kyrie. He isnt better that Rozier. Who are you going to sit to play him? Plus I dont need him coming back thinking oh yeah the last time I was here I was the man so I should be the man again.

I have no desire to bring him back. Please keep him as far away from this team as possible. I dont want him back taking shots and opportunities from Tatum, Brown, and Rozier.

Some people seem to think Jordan Clarkson is better than IT, so that may hault the '6th man' discussion. I think, in theory, he could be a great player off the bench for us (if healthy again), but that time may be in a couple of years from now when he gets bought out of his next contract.

Maybe as a scoring specialist coming off the bench like as a 6th or 7th man. And for a reasonable short-term contract that pays him what his true value is.

That's IF he's really healthy, which I doubt.

Dude it would be super awkward for IT to come back when his direct replacement is here and leading the team.  I don't see it happening.

Plus even if IT gets bought out, which he probably won't, he will want to goto a team who can showcase him so that he can earn a big contract in the offseason.  The C's system isn't about showcasing an individual player, so that rules us out.

I see us going after Joe Johnson or Marco Belinelli if they get bought out though.

i recall Cavs fans saying they got the best player in the trade ......Kyrie had no defense  ......they won ..yada yada ......i m a big IT fan ....but iD traded him UNhurt for Kyrie in a New York second .

Im still skeptical he can ever get his "edge " back.....incredibly fast lateral , stop start , and IT could dunk ...if he set his mind about doing so.   Al this special athletic gifts for a short guy is what set him apart .  He maybe average acceleration and jumping from now on.   Good scoring is not gonna do it, he needs to be able to jump like he use to to defend .   He plays no defense .....this puts the most pressure on his hip.     He maybe cooked as playerb
