Now that it looks like Monroe is signing with Celtics.  Whats the possibility we sign him next year?

I figure on open market he will prob. Be in 10 to 12 million range.

Lets say the fit is perfect.  What is the most we could offer him?

Zero (possibility we sign him next year). If the team wanted to sign him for $10 million, they would have offered the full DPE now, which would have allowed us to make a $10.1 million non-Bird FA offer in the offseason.

I suppose they have there reasons, but signing him for the full would have at least  given us the chance of retaining him.

I think people are grossly overestimating what Monroe will command in free agency.

I think Monroe will command something comparable to Kelly Olynyk at least.

Who do you think could honestly offer him a reasonable contract? Mavs, or Pacers?

It seems to me they are too. He was traded as salary filler and then dumped before the deadline because no team would give up assets for him.

I'd be very surprised if he even got the full non-taxpayer MLE next year, with the taxpayer MLE being closer to his actual value.

That's because he was making $17,000,000(!) this season on the tail end of a rather generous contract. He certainly isn't worth that. But I fully expect him to make more than half of this next season. Certainly the taxpayer MLE as a minimum, probably a bit more.

Kelly Olynk got 4 years 50 million.  I dont think 10 million is overestimating.

Yeah. Greg Monroe is considerably better than Kelly Olynyk. So in a worse cap environment, I expect him to command comparable value, perhaps slightly less.

Curious as to why you think Monroe is considerably better than Olynyk.

Better rebounder, better finisher, better overall scorer, better ability to bang with players his size, has actually proven that he can handle 30+ mpg as a starter.

Olynyk is a nice change of pace big who can hit a three and is no longer embarrassingly bad in positional defense. Note that even in his breakout season Olynyk can't crack 30 mpg and is, essentially the same player he was in Boston last year.

Curious as to how someone could make the case otherwise

To be honest, I don't really know much about Olynyk. I really started to hate his game the year after he got drafted, I just wanted to know the reasoning behind it. Because I remember statistically he was ranked pretty as a team defender, which is a plus considering he was awful in college.

I will say KO does fit the modern NBA, while Monroe is slowly edging himself out of it. But Moose will certainly get some Boston love once he leads the Celtics in RPG.    :P ::)
