It is an interesting question when you look at his whole 22 year career.  13 years in the NBA as an overall good player (2 All NBA and 2 All Star games).  he then was one of the first Americans to play in China where he has played for 9 years, winning 3 Titles and a Finals MVP.

Does the fact that he was a pioneer of sorts by going to China and that he had such great team success give him enough extra cred to make the Hall of Fame?

People SUGGESTED Yao Ming shouldn't be a HoFer, and honestly... If you look at his numbers, they aren't that impressive, and neither is Marbury. Sure Marbury set the tone for other basketball players to play internationally overseas in China, but Hall of Fame should be reserved for the no-brainers. I actually never liked Marbury's game. I always felt he had too much of an ego, and it cost him dearly especially when he wasn't able to move past tension between him and Garnett. If he had stayed, and kept that duo alive and running with the right role players, he could've definitely built far more impressive resume.

People will say he has been an champion 3x, and Allstar 6x at China, but... If you really think about it, do you consider that impressive? Most basketball players that don't even play or benchwarmers could put up great numbers in China... Marbury is apparently the 'Michael Jordan,' of CBA, but that shouldn't matter. Marbury hasn't composed enough NBA resume to be the defining point to get his accolades despite his impactful CBA resume. CBA is the weakest league, if it was Euroleague, then sure maybe... But I say no.

Marbury
2× NBA All-Star (2001, 2003)
2× All-NBA Third Team (2000, 2003)

CBA Finals MVP (2015)
CBA Foreign MVP (2013)
6× CBA All-Star (2010–2015, 2017)
CBA All-Star Game MVP (2010)
Third-team All-American – AP, NABC (1996)
First-team All-ACC (1996)

Yao Ming
8× NBA All-Star (2003–2009, 2011)
2× All-NBA Second Team (2007, 2009)
3× All-NBA Third Team (2004, 2006, 2008)
NBA All-Rookie First Team (2003)
No. 11 retired by Houston Rockets
CBA MVP (2001)
CBA champion (2002)
CBA Finals MVP (2002)
3× CBA rebounding leader (2000, 2001, 2002)
3× CBA blocks leader (2000, 2001, 2002)
2× CBA Slam Dunk leader (2000, 2001)
3× FIBA Asian Championship MVP (2001, 2003, 2005)

Not even close. So Marbury had success in the CBA? So what! This is a league where Jimmer Fredette and MarShon Brooks average over 37 PPG and Jared Sullinger is a 25PPG, 17 RPG star!

Anything Marbury did over there counts for exactly zero.

This is actually a pretty hard question.  Because the HOF isn't limited to just the NBA.  International players have gotten in because they were dominant in their respective leagues.  Were they better than Marbury?  And if there's WNBA players in the HOF then that's more of a case for Marbury to be in.

I could see Marbury getting in because of China. They do not just reward accomplishments but also for growing the game. Marbury has done a lot to grow the game in China. He has a fair case ... probably down the road though. Some year when they have a weak class.

No. His accomplishments in the Chinese don't mean much to me as they came after he couldn't cut it in the NBA anymore and his accomplishments while in the NBA are just not HoF worthy.

Let him in for his humanitarian efforts with the Starbury sneaker!

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

No, he does not belong and if they count his CBA year it is an absolute joke.

He should be as he has been the face of the transition of US star player to China star player.

We can't dismiss that he was a popular player in HS, NBA and CBA. He also played on USA team.

He had an impact 100%

Nah.  I actually tried to talk myself into this, but CBA competition is just too weak.

It's an intriguing question.

If you look at who is enshrined in the Basketball HOF as "contributors" and look at their resumes, then I think you have to give Marbury some consideration there.

As a player enshrinee?  No way.

Me too. It's almost as though he picked China because he couldn't cut it anywhere else, in higher leagues. Even Scal at least played in Italy.

He just became content with being a star in a weak league, but he might have looked for a place where he would be considered good, passing on bench roles in Europe. I guess the money might have been okay?

If Chris Webber isn't an HoFer, why should Marbury get to be one?
