According to NY Post, he is not reporting to team.  If bought out, would you consider using DPE on him?

I can't see him giving up too much of the money he's still owed the next 2 years on that huge contract. Unless the Knicks are ok with eating the majority of that money to open a spot for someone else.

He's about 33 and he's played a total of 82 games over the last 3 seasons. This season he's played a total of 40 minutes all year.

If he's still capable of playing basketball it would be the best secret the Knicks ever kept.

Watched him play some d league and he was slow and lost. Sad to see. Monster mistake by genius Phil Jackson.

Mistake?  That was a typical bad Phil move.  In fact, he made only one good move in his entire tenure of NY:  Drafting Porzingis.

one of the worst shooters I ve ever seen in basketball at any level.  Watching him shoot is like scratching nails on a chalkboard for me .

So if he can bring crazy energy off the bench ,  spring like a jumping bean ,  he is pretty much worthless IMO.   H is only value is his emotional energy backed up by crazy physical play .   If h can't brng this he is cooked as an NBA player.

Not sure what "Noah" has left.  But, from the article, it appeared to me the Knicks would prefer to dump him with something called the stretch provision this summer.

Generally agree except that Noah is also one of the best passing big men in the league and was still a good rebounder the last couple years. But that's overwhelmed by his major physical limitations and inability to score.

I bet we'd take a look at him if bought out. Not so sure we'd bring him in.

Only brought idea because he and Horford obviously had good big man chemistry in college with back to back championships.  Plus Noah a few years ago was a top defensive center.  Have not seen him play much the past year plus, so defer to others' judgment on what he may have left in the tank.  I see his last decent year was 2013-14, so he seems toast.

Not saying it was a good tenure, but seems like he also found some good cheap young players? God Hernagomez for a second round pick. Trade a second round pick for O'quinn. Getting Justin Holiday for Lopez and Caulderon was also a good deal, but then he let holiday go. It did seem like he had a decent eye for young players that could be rotation players (even draft hardaway at 24 was a real good pick). His free agent signings were awful though and the Melo situation was obviously a disaster

2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Thomas was also a pretty good drafter but was similarly terrible in free agency and trades.  I do think NY has something to do with it.  There is a pressure to win and to win quickly in that city that just doesn't exist in most places, which can often lead to short sighted win now type moves.

If they are willing to send out an unprotected pick, then perhaps. Right now they are 12th worst. Would that be enough for a team to take on literally the worst contract in the NBA? (though Chandler Parsons seems to be knocking on the door, poor Grizz)

Trading for an expiring contract would open up a max FA slot for them. If they can also dump Lee and Hardaway it would open two max slots. This might actually be a decent strategy, as Porzingis might attract some good free agents. Regardless they need to stop signing mediocre players to long bloated deals.

They might get away with a lesser or protected pick if they take back a not-quite-as-toxic contract from a rebuilding team. They could also include some "sweetener" players in the mix.

Some trade "targets," all of whom are paid less and/or are functional players with at least a bit of upside:

Brandon Knight, Phoenix. 3yrs $42M
Bazemore, ATL , 3yrs $54M
Marvin Willams, Charlotte, 3yrs $42M
Biyombo, Orlando, 3yrs $51M
Mozgov, Brooklyn, 3yrs $48M
Omer Asik, Pelicans 3yrs $34M (Pels aren't rebuilding but might want supplementary picks/players while taking on an only slightly worse contract)
