Trade Announcement

The Los Angeles Clippers and Phoenix Suns have agreed to a deal in which Phoenix sends Greg Monroe, Marquese Chriss, Alan Williams and the '18 Milwaukee 1st round pick to LA in exchange for DeAndre Jordan and Patrick Beverley.

In a short statement Phoenix says that they hope that DeAndre and Patrick can have a big impact to change the direction of the team. They thank Greg, Marquese and Alan for the contributions to the team and wish them success in their further careers.

After the transaction between Milwaukee, San Antonio and Phoenix the protections for the '18 Milwaukee pick had been changed, therefore it's highly likely that the pick will convey this year as the protection is as follows: 1-10 in 2018, 1-3 in 2019, 1-7 in 2020 and unprotected in 2021.

LA Clippers sends out a total of $28.155.864,- in salary (22,6 Jordan; 5,5 Beverley) and receives a total of $26.957.976,- in salary (17,9 Monroe; 6,0 Williams; 3,1 Chriss), therefore the trade is valid.

(since in another universe Monroe was released I can't show the trade in the trading machine)

Now I know we aren't able to trade players received during this exercise, but how does that work for traded protections on picks commissioner?

PS- Not trying to rain on parades, just curious if our acquired picks are tradable. That would change things a bit.

Picks are less complicated due to physicals and rules about trading players away. Picks can be traded away.

Charlotte continues its roster reshaping by trading Michael Kidd-Gilchrist to Denver for Kenneth Faried.

Charlotte's recent moves left a glut of wings and a dearth of big men, so it is happy to add the athletic rebounding machine to its roster.  The Hornets are sad to see MKG go, but wish him well on the up and coming Nuggets team.

@rick_bonnell - 0m ago - After the recent trade with the @Nuggets, the @Hornets are now focused on finding a suitor for Dwight Howard.  Jeremy Lamb and Michael Carter-Williams have also been discussed in trade talks, but the @Hornets are really focused on moving Dwight and are willing to take on longer contracts than Dwight's 2 years to get it done.

Statement from Denver Nuggets:

First and foremost we would like to thank Faried for the nearly 7 years he spent with us. When we made the pick back in 2011 we knew that the talent and hard work was there. We are proud of the near Double-Double machine Faried has grown into. With Milsap due back after the All-Star break, minutes would have been hard to come by with the growth of Trey Lyles thus we wanted to make sure Faried could continue to grow.

We are excited to bring in Michael Kidd-Gilchrist as he fits very well with the team's youth.

The Nuggets are still very open to trades and would like to find another star player BUT are very happy about the growth of the young guns and are looking forward to the continued growth of this Playoff team.

Finally, Mile High Deli Guy would like to wish Faired the best of luck in Charlotte! And thank him for bringing his lunch pale every day and putting in the work. "Whenever you are in Denver, visit anytime and as always your sandwiches are on me, Manimal!!!!"

Breaking:

A three team trade has been completed between the Los Angeles Lakers, New Orleans Pelicans, and Atlanta Hawks.

The Los Angeles Lakers will be sending Luol Deng, Thomas Bryant, and two first round draft picks with protections (protections below) to the Atlanta Hawks for Deandre Bembry, Malcolm Delaney, Luke Babbit, Isaiah Taylor, and ATLs 2018 second round draft pick, and 750k in cash considerations from New Orleans.

Atlanta will be sending Ersan Ilyasova to New Orleans with a second round draft pick (Atlanta’s owned 2nd round pick that is the less favorable of LA and MIN in 2019). New Orleans will be utilizing their recently acquired trade exception to fit Ersan into their roster

Protections on the LA picks to Atlanta are as follows : First pick protected 1-8 in 2020, 1-5 in 2021, unprotected in 2022.  The second pick will be 1-8 in 2022, 1-5 in 2023, unprotected in 2024. Conveyance of the second pick to begin two years after the first pick.

(http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=y8h6ff7j) (But with Ersan fitting into New Orleans' TPE)

Woj:

The Pelicans have indicated a willingness to trade this year’s 1st round pick for a frontline center, after initially resisting such a move.  They feel they have improved the overall quality and depth of this team, and are looking to make a run in the playoffs.

Per Woj: The Miami Heat appear to have taken Kelly Olynyk off the market. They are optimistic that he can be a good fit next to Bam Adebayo.  However they still are still open to deal James Johnson.

Hey guys — OKC doesnt have its 1st next year.  It’s owed to Minnesota (protected through 2020).  Two years after that, they owe a 1st to Orlando (protected through 2022).  The earliest they can trade a protected pick is 2022, and the earliest it can be unprotected is 2024.

Isn't the OKC 1st next year their own IF they send their first rounder to MIN this summer (assuming it lands 15-30)?

That’s not what I’m seeing from Real GM:

Quote
2018 first round draft pick to Minnesota
Oklahoma City's 1st round pick to Minnesota (via Utah) protected for selections 1-14 in 2018, 1-14 in 2019 and 1-14 in 2020; if Oklahoma City has not conveyed a 1st round pick to Minnesota by 2020, then Oklahoma City will instead convey its 2020 2nd round pick and 2021 2nd round pick to Minnesota [Detroit-Oklahoma City-Utah, 2/19/2015; Minnesota-Utah, 6/30/2017]

What are you seeing where?

Okay, I don’t think you’re interpreting that correctly. And if you are, your deal still doesn’t work.   But can you give a link?

If they give their pick this year, they do have their 2019 pick.  But you can’t trade picks in consecutive future drafts, so if the pick to Minny is conveyed, the earliest one could go to NY is 2020.  But again, they also owe a pick to Orlando beginning in 2020, so the earliest they could actually send a pick to NY is 2022.
