Wow
And yet Alvin Gentry still let Cousins play 39 minutes.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why the Pelicans are the Pelicans.
That sends a pretty potent message about how much Gentry values hard work, to the rest of the team. It doesn't matter what he says if he lets Cousins skulk around and still get big minutes.
The opposite of that is the way Brad Stevens treats Marcus Smart. Smarts shooting continues to be terrible but Smart plays the right way with a ton of hustle so everyone sees what they have to do to get playing time.
Obviously there are big differences between an all star like Cousins and a role player like Smart but if Gentry is not able to stand up to his star that means he doesn't have control over his team at all.
