From HoopsRumors: Having joined the Wisconsin Herd as an affiliate player for the Bucks, James Young isn’t one of the 59 players currently on a two-way contract. However, the former first-round pick has outperformed many of those two-way players in G League action so far, putting up an impressive 27.5 PPG in six games for the Herd, with a .536 FG% and 4.2 threes per game. Chris Reichert of 2 Ways & 10 Days takes a closer look at Young, who is looking to play his way back into the NBA.

He should catch on somewhere. The kid has talent but never had the work ethic. Perhaps this is the kick in the butt the he needs ala Gerald Green.

We have seen great stats from James Young in the G-League before. There have been tons of guys who have starred in the G-League and never made it to the NBA. I just don't think he has NBA talent.

So he is not even on a 2-way contract then, right?  That means he's making peanuts to save his NBA career.  He could go overseas, make more money, and still make it back to the NBA....

I agree. Defense isn't exactly stellar in the G-League. Players like Young tend go off there when operating with more space.

I saw Jabari Bird put up some thing like 25-27 points and he looked really unimpressive. I was more impressed by the opposing teams PG who didn't put up nearly the same numbers but did a bunch of little things.

Box scores and youtube highlights only tell part of a story most of the time...

Young's problem is that he doesn't have the talent to score like that at the NBA level but he clearly never learned how to make an impact without being a primary scorer.

  • Peace it's a board. We all will never agree.
If he puts in the Work. Whiteside did and made it. I am hopeful.

So one of the players from my high school was on a D league roster for a couple of years.  He was a good player of course.

His credentials?  He was all-league his senior year and played a year of juco ball.

My point?  We need to keep some perspective on G League performance.

Curious when?  The D (now G) league is still lower quality, but it’s increased the past few years as more and more teams have created affiliates.  In the early years of the D league they had to compete with the CBA for minor league US-based talent.

for the Wisconsin Herd. Why can't we get players like that?

We've seen this before.

I was and still probably am the only lone faithful loyal supporter to this day, (is it because I still see him wingspan and his shooting stroke,) that he can piece it together.

Young and Smart could've been an devastating duo if they ever became what I thought they could've in my eyes.

Still young, but if he can't improve and be patient on defense.. He ain't gonna see minutes.
