Sign Leandro Barbosa for the full 8.4 million exception. This gives us a contract that can be used at the deadline for another star, but it also gives us a savvy veteran guard.
Barbosa can play on or off-ball. He is an offensive spark plug. Even though he is old, he still plays at a high level. He knows how to move the ball in a motion offense and he is a pretty good shooter (39% 3 point shooting career).
His defense is not great, but its not that bad either. Last year for the Suns he wasn't good, but that was on an awful Suns team. His defensive rating the years before that was 106 and 104. On top of that, he uses his length and quickness well to wreak havoc in passing lanes.
He is a winner. He plays the game the right way. He would take some of the offensive load off of Rozier and Smart. In spurts without the starters on the floor, he could get hot and extend the lead.
He's not a long-term solution. He's also not a star. But he is a savvy veteran who would fill a need as a scoring guard and give us a contract that could be traded later on.
