Motivational technique, or the truth?
Both. Stevens knows we cannot achieve the goals of this team with our offense playing as poorly as it has. He's been talking about the offense needing to get better since a few games into our winning streak when the defense was clearly taking shape as top tier.

Its funny he's clearly trying to keep Smart/Rozier from being gun shy with comments to and about them, while also trying to get everyone else to move the ball and or decision make better.

Until our two primary backup guards can shoot better than 40% hard to be an above average offense.

The shooting hasn't been great. That's true.

he makes good points. our offense needs work, ranked 23rd. Also, we were down 17 or 18 to like 3 different teams. we cant have that happen so often

Our offense needs work = Gordon Hayward is missing.

He is our missing offense piece.

Sounds like a GREAT Coach (and future HOFer) to me.

Celebrate the success BUT need to work on the weaknesses. Those weaknesses will only become more prevalent in March, April and May...

This team knows they still have work to do.

The starting lineup is already among the best in the league and isn't too much of an issue offensively. Kyrie is really the only one struggling from the field, and due to the volume of his shots, he brings down the overall efficiency numbers of the starting lineup. I expect his numbers to get back to normal soon.

The bench is what really contributes to the bad offensive numbers. Hayward coming back would only put Morris back on the bench. We've already seen that when Morris is paired with the 2nd unit, the go-to offense is a Morris ISO contested mid-range jumper. That won't be enough to sustain a team offensively.

Coachspeak.  Brad doesn't want the guys to get too full of themselves.

As for our 15th straight win.  Yes we beat the Hawks but we had to come from behind again.

I know this team is confident they can mount the comeback but Brad's words have truth.

You don't want to always play from behind if you don't have to.

There's a lot of room for improvement for our Celtics.  And that's a real scary thought for the rest of the NBA!

total truth.

this team isn't as good as their record says they are. but given the circumstances they've earned it.

Actually there are. They are 15-2. To quote Bill Parcells you are what your record says you are. They earned every win. Defense wins games in the NBA. Maybe you want them to play perfect and win by 30 points every game but they are 15-2.

Coaches strive for perfection so of course Brad isn't going to be happy until everything is perfect even if that isn't realistic. Fans should just enjoy being 15-2.

Is the collective IQ of fans so low that they can’t be happy with our record while also acknowledging flaws? Why should it be one or the other?

It’s like saying “I love my college but the food sucks and the weather is terrible in the winter”. Those aren’t incompatible statements.

Gotta love it when the team is winning but the coach has a ton of stuff to bring up to the team as things they have to work on. Belichick for years downplayed wins and let into his team hard for improvement in areas that fell short of excellent execution the Sunday before. Glad Stevens is that same type of coach.

Brad is just doing what he's always done - building a team that grinds every night and doesn't look at either the opponent's record or their own record.  But he's also coaching the most talent he's ever had to work with.
