I know it's early for this but I can see things getting very interesting at the trade deadline...

First, I dt like Monroe fit with our team... too old and 1 dimensional on both off and def.
I rather get Okafor or Noel who are young and can grow with Brad Stevens tapping into their potential and aligning with the timeline of the rest of our young players.

For the 3pt shooting wing, we only need one for the playoff run this year... We will have Hayward coming back and we have a lot of depth on the wing already. So we can afford an older vet for a 1 year rental with the DPE. Assuming ATL and Dallas are still bottom feeders on both conferences, i could see buyout deals for bellinelli and Matthews... both seasoned vets who can put the ball in the basket in the playoff from 3 pt range when we need it...

1 year rental Wings options:
Bellinelli: Deadly 3pt shooter who can handle the ball and great in pick n roll and from mid range
Matthews: Deadly 3pt shooter with great defense!

As for the Big Center spot, I would like someone that is young and can last during our upcoming dynasty! Horford is getting older, Baynes has a 1 year deal, Theis is on a 1 year guaranteed deal, we need a good young big that can stay with the team long term, enters Noel or Okafor...

Long term Bigs options:
Noel: Great defender who can switch on guards and patrol the paint. offense is just put backs and lobs. Affinity: Boston native who would jump at opportunity to play for his city.
Okafor: Unstoppable scoring force in the paint who has the potential to rebound and block shoot when committed. Affinity: Duke alumn who is close with Kyrie and would love to join his Dukies in Green.

So what's your ideal combo of Young Big Center and Deadly 3pt shooting Wing we could potentially get at the trade deadline...?

Any other options you see that could better fit our needs...?

What has to go out?

I don't see any trade like this happening anyways.   I see the Celtics looking more towards buyout signings.

Before anything else, Noel makes zero sense since he'd be only a rental. He doesn't fit the young guy with potential to grow in our system label since if we traded for him his bird rights would not come with him, and we could only then sign him with cap space next summer, and we won't have any.

Also, in this scenario how are we taking on two players? We only have one spot open and the DPE doesn't give us an extra spot, just cap space. Without trading/waiving a player we can only take on one.

That said I'm all for maximizing the DPE's potential to net us a long term asset. Grabbing a guy in a funky contract situation (for instance Okafor, but only if he's waived by Philly) makes a ton of sense to me. Okafor also gets us a player with a tool/skillset that we don't currently have. There have also been scenarios presented where we use the  DPE in tandem with a trade creating a future TPE, and that would be awesome for flexibility too, but the guys who make sense to use in that trade have all been playing great.

I like the ideas of the players you mention, but these are all bigger moves than I'm expecting/hoping for. If a player Ainge has always liked somehow becomes available then pull the trigger with the DPE, otherwise hold tight and maximize its value for us long term somehow.

Who exactly are you proposing we trade? All the players listed to trade for are lackluster

This.

None of these would convince me to trade a rotation level player or 1st round pick.

Also, there is a reason Monroe  keeps being traded. I don't want that reason to surface in our locker room.

I think any moves will be buyouts and small moves. Maybe a backup big or a spot up shooter.

McRoberts
Ed Davis
Belinelli

A major move would be Derrick Favors or Brooke Lopez in buyouts

Wait I thought we had open roster spots for 2 buyouts (was not referring to trades) :
- 1 open roster spot because we carried 14 players only (that we will fill first with 1 buyout)
- 1 DPE addition we are allowed to make because of Hayward's injury.
It would be less attractive to give DPE to teams and also force them to drop one player from their roster before being allowed to add the DPE player... I would have to check but I always thought we were positioned to add 2 players in the buyout market...
Can someone confirm we can only add 1 player...??

This is from user (mmmmm) a few weeks ago:

The DPE gives them the ability (an additional cap exception) to go further over the salary cap. It does NOT create an additional roster spot.

Gordon Hayward is still on the 15 man NBA roster. He just stays on the "inactive list". His salary still counts towards our cap number and luxury tax number.

If we were at a full 15-man roster, we’d have to waive / trade someone to open a roster spot in order to add a player via the DPE.

The idea is that if Hayward were able to come back healthy earlier than expected, he's allowed. So he continues to count towards our 15(17w/two ways) roster count. That leaves us with the one roster spot open.

I think its unlikely we make an "major" or "significant" trades. With Gordon Hayward out we aren't a true tittle contender, and bringing in a vet just means lost developmental minutes for our young guys. Now if we could get a younger piece with some upside like Okafor with the DPE then sure, but otherwise why bother? Last year you could make the case it behooved us to win to get to the ECF and entice a major free agent, but this year we wont be big time free agent players so even that enticement is out the window. Play the young guys studs, develop the rotation guys like rozier, semi, even yabu, and lets see what we can do with this team.

Thanks for the info!
Sorry I missed this constraint related to the DPE.
What a bummer.
Anyways, still, we can get two Buyouts and just drop Nader....

I don't see us making a trade unless more guys get hurt.   I hope that doesn't happen but that is the only way I see them trading someone.
