The man is likely involved with ISIS, but he is a citizen and deserves his rights to a lawyer and go to court. Another example of ignoring the constitutionial rights of our citizens and although this man almost certainly deserves to be imprisoned, everyone deserves due process.

I agree. US citizens deserve Constitutional protection at all times.

At the same time, if the Iraqi government were to request extradition, I wouldnít shed any tears.

I agree with this, although I'll grant that this scenario made it slightly dicier than I anticipated. As much as this just sort of feels like an exception, I think we need to draw a red line on the rights of our citizens lest we open up one hell of a can of worms.

Just curious, Do you think non-citizens deserve the same protection?

This person is the scum of the earth, but he deserves his rights within the law.

Non-citizen residents, yes.

Foreign citizens who travel to the US for the sole purpose of committing crimes or terrorism? No.

Note that thatís my opinion, not necessarily the current state of the law.

I find it a deeply disturbing and terrible precedent to continue. I was hoping this administration would be better than the previous in regards to following the constitution. And thatís not to say that this situation is as bad as what the Obama administration went forward with, when they assisisinated a 16 year old American boy without due process, but itís along those same lines.

yes, the US government has a long, long history of doing exactly what is being discussed here.
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy ó not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

It would appear this is more a matter addressed by the Geneva Convention than the US constitution.

It highlights the problems with taking prisoners in war.
