Kyrie
Jaylen
Tatum
Giannis
Horford

That's the starting 5

Are we title contenders?

I hyped Giannis from the beginning so can't say I am a Monday morning quarterback ,  still hurts, ugh KO over Giannis....

We'd be defending champions by now.

This past offseason would've been very different.  Would we have gone after Hayward?  Probably not.  I don't want to look back at who was available, but without going after Hayward, the C's would've been much deeper than they were this year with Hayward.  I voted title contender.

Impossible to say, as the roster would probably look very different.

Gia is a beast, there's no denying that, though.

Nope, doesn't effect the roster at all.

Jaylen and Tatum were nets picks.

Horford signed as a free agent

Would have still had the players and picks to trade for Kyrie

This was a very realistic starting 5

  • Everybody knows what's best for you
In your scenario, we are essentially replacing Hayward/Morris with Giannis/AB. If you thought we had a good chance at beating the Cavs to get to the finals before the season, it's hard to believe you would go against that with Giannis and AB.

The obvious answer is contenders...but with GSW out there, everybody is else is essentially pretenders.

It absolutely affects the roster.

No decision a GM makes is ever made in a vacuum. One different decision that far back in the time line could lead to dozens of different permutations of what the team might look like today.

Nothing is realistic about this thread at all. It's silly and pointless. But if you guys want to rehash this nonsense again, go for it. Just pointing out the the obvious.

Gee idk....maybe we wouldn't have drafted Smart. That could be a serious problem for this team

It just goes to show you that getting top picks is fine and good, but you have to know how to draft them.  He was the 15th pick in what was considered a very weak draft. (Anthony Bennett the top pick, LOL).

The thing is there is no way to know how good Giannis would have been had he been drafted by Boston.  He certainly doesn't start over Jeff Green as a rookie and probably then doesn't enter the next year as the starter either (he didn't originally start in Milwaukee but was starting by the end of his rookie year and hasn't looked back).  Maybe he doesn't develop in the same way.  Maybe Boston doesn't acquire Crowder if it has Giannis, and thus maybe keeps Rondo longer and doesn't acquire Thomas.  There are just so many variables that you just can't know.  If Giannis was just added to the current team (minus Hayward who never could have been acquired if Boston had Giannis), then Boston would be a clear title contender, but you can't just do that because so much would be different had Boston actually drafted him.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip
