Tough spot for Philly. Embiid has shown All-NBA, maybe even MVP potential, and someone would've paid him, but he's of course incredibly brittle and hasn't been able to stay on the court after 2 years of not being able to get on the court.
This contract could be the beginning of locking in a contending core, it could almost totally negate any positive traction "the process" has given their franchise and put them right back to square one in a few seasons. Or even worse, Embiid plays just enough to put them on the treadmill of mediocrity but never able to rise to a real threat. The odds of the latter two scenarios seem higher.
