Is there a way to make each post display the number of TPs it has received? It could keep posters from copying long posts and saying: "This" or "+1". TP to the OP.

Yeah, this would be similar to the front page articles where "rec'd" (similar to TPs) responses are lit up in green after receiving three recs from users. You also do not need to wait for the page to re-load like you do with TPs (as many of us know, this can be a nuisance). However, unlike front page articles, a lifetime count of TPs appear under your name in forums - which is pretty cool.

I definitely do think we should keep them, but it does seem to be a little bit of a popularity contest - not something I am not totally fond of, but am probably also guilty of sometimes.

the game threads engender quite a few tps. and i pass them out fairly often.

if you, meaning the OP here, find them passe then by all means do not use them. for me? i find them quite enjoyable to both give and receive.

they also make cb a bit distinctive from other sites.

so, i am certainly in favor of keeping them.

OP, by the way, your options are a bit oddly worded. for anyone wanting to keep tps, they have to respond with a negative answer. but, you still get a tp from me.  ;D

Wasn't aware they were commonly used in game thread posts. (I generally don't view them as I often watch games later on DVR.)

I like them too. Just doesn't seem as much interest in them as there once was.

Thanks for making me aware of the awkwardly worded options. Will try to keep that in mind next time I start a poll.
for the game threads, yep. when the celtics win lots of folks pass them out in celebration.

tps are fun. no need to join in if they are not for you. that is perfectly fine. and another tp for you, by the way.  ;D
I generally watch the games on a dvr, but I've always wondered how you guys watch the game and pay attention to the blog at the same time.
by being intellectually advanced and superior.  ;)

Here in Celtics Blogville,

            we have traditions for everything.

            How to watch the game.

            How to post.

            How to kvetch.

            How to troll.

            For instance,

we always keep our heads covered with Celtics hats,

and always give Tommy Points to good posts or perhaps bizarre ones.

This shows our constant devotion to Tommy.

            You may ask,

how did this tradition get started?

I'll tell you

The Man himself said so.

Does Silverscreenandroll have such an awesome "attaboy" system? What would they call it?

Kobe Points?

Magic Points?

As this team enters Contention Mode Tommy Points are needed more than ever.

Yeah, absolutely not.  My self-worth is based almost entirely on Tommy Points.

I am 80% serious here.

Tommy Points can be weaponized, and have been before to shame trolls.

Tommy Points have also been used as a weapon. Remember the troll from Cleveland ... I believe it was Cleveland ...the first year Lebron returned. He was trolling and the blog plastered him/her/it with Tommy Points. He got thousands of Tommy Points within days. LOL!

I think I would rather see Scal respectfully ask (or shamelessly beg, it is Scal) Tommy for the privilege of giving out Tommy points during the broadcasts once Tommy retires.

Though Scal Snacks does sound kinda cool, so a Tommy Point for that.

Tommy really is amazing.  The guy is 83 years old!

I like Scal too, and I think he is the perfect transitional guy for the job until Tommy hangs it up.

Thanks for all your responses, TP's and poll participation. So far, the poll results show only 5 participants who would like to discontinue them.

And, from your responses it's obvious there is still a LOT of enthusiasm for their usage. This is great news! I was starting to feel they were falling out of favor. And, for the past month passed out fewer than normal. Now I see the light and I'm all charged up again. Thank you!!!

Like previous posters mentioned, I wish there was better way to indicate if a post got Tommy points or not, rather than just relying on them being mentioned on a following post.
