I said it before the draft that I hope celtics don't pick Young at 17 cause I thought he b a bust...as a UK fan, the knock on him was his work effort..

Yeah, I was surprised we didn't take Gary Harris.  Hood is the popular pick in retrospect, but I thought Harris was destined to be a Celt.

Young at the time = higher potential. Helped Kentucky make finals

The bottom line is, lacks nba anything. Shaky shooter (and it needed to be his bread and butter). Cant dribble with right hand (easy to defend).  Moves like and has iq of a PF

Goodluck in europe or china James

Maybe he can take advantage of one of those lifetime scholarships at Kentucky that Calipari hands out

  • GOT IT!!!
If he's actually serious about the craft it's time for him to go overseas for a while and hone his game. If things workout then take another stab at the league just like Gerald Green did.

Not surprising.

The Celtics invested as much as they could in Young, often when the evidence of him improving was minimal. No denying he showed glimpses of potential but that doesn't get you a spot on a roster. The NBL season has just started in Australia, it would be a good league for him.

Not surprised.

Never saw half of the potential others did in him - he really didn't have a single above average skill aside from three point shooting.  Wasn't that quick or explosive athletically, was too skinny, couldn't pass, not a great ball handler, useless defender, etc.  He was a one-hit-wonder basically.

People around here seemed fooled in to thinking he had potential just because he was young (pun not intended) but as I always say...when it comes to potential youth acts as a multiplier to skill/talent, it doesn't outright replace it.

When you have a 19 year old who has the raw physical talent of Jaylen Brown or the natural skill of Jayson Tatum, then age becomes a massive boost to potential.  But when you have a 19 year old who is mediocre across the board, age is of little relevance.

He was probably the best source for weed the Celtics have had since Sheed.

He just isn't an NBA athlete.  When you draft a guy at 18, you think he will get more athletic.  Young did the opposite.

And it's not that bad. He could make a very decent career overseas, playing in Euroleague.

Bucks just waived James Young. Am I crazy for wanting Ainge to sign him as the last roster spot? Is it even possible to sign him now? I just feel like bringing back a guy that's been with the team for the last 3 years and seemed like a good locker room guy brings more stability to a roster that's mostly new. Since chemistry could still be an issue to start the season I think bringing Young back could only help. What do you guys think?

just....why....
