To piggy back off of the is the 3-ball ruining the NBA topic, I thought it would be fun to put together your favorite NBA starting 5 and sixth man combination. This isn't make the best team of all time, this is make your best team to watch.

Here are my rules, you can't pick players out of position so you can't have an all NBA team of SF's. Also, your sixth man has to be a sixth man, you can't throw Larry off the bench because you have Lebron starting already. Lastly, you pick the era you want your team to play in.

I did this for myself to see if I really preferred the 3 ball NBA, and after seeing my roster I'm not sure that I do. I fell in love with the NBA in the 80's and I guess that's the style of basketball i'll always prefer.

PG: John Stockton
SG: Ray Allen
SF: Larry Bird
PF: Kevin Garnett
C: Bill Lambeer (Sacrilege I know)
6th Man: Bill Walton
Era: 1980's

PG: Magic
SG: Tracy McGrady
SF: Larry Legend
PF: Garnett
C: Hakeem Olajuwon

6th: Jamal Crawford.

I know that my SG and 6th spot will get slammed, but Mcgrady in his prime was amazing to watch. I truly credit his brilliance to keeping my love of basketball alive in the mid 2000s. Crawford on the other hand is just fun to me. His ability to cross people on a dime at 6'5 and splash is so fun to watch. And this is even coming from someone who hates iso players in general.

I feel like the passing involved with all of those players would be so much fun to watch. If you got them all to buy into the team system, it would be beautiful basketball.

Era: Early 90s.

I went back and forth between Lambeer and Sabonis.. He is a great choice.
I still like my team more though.

In their prime I would love a team of:
Magic
Jordan
Bird
Garnett
Kareem

& the unstoppable 6th man (umm, there were more than one & we need more than 6 people off the bench, right?):
McHale
Hondo
Microwave
Michael Cooper
Jamal Crawford
Walton (does he even qualify for bench role?)

Is that fun enough?

Toine for all his faults was a joy to watch and I would have him on my team.  It wouldn't be conducive to winning, but I would have fun watching Toine in his prime again.  Probably have AI at the point for similar reasons.  Not sure who else would be on that team, but those two would be a lot of fun.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

I'm going to throw a curveball, here.

Prime Sabonis...I'm talking THIS Arvydas

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06usV6451ik

C- Aryvidas Sabonis
PF - Bill Russell (YES - Bill KNEW EVERY position on the floor...have seen him state this. He stated that it was KEY for him to know this to be a better team mate.

SF - Larry
SG - Michael
PG - Magic

Prime Sabas destroyed David Robinson's team...destroyed it. Yeah a few of those were goal tends but he blocked enough of them legally.

Sabas had great range, too - out to the three point line.

Hookshots...dunks...mid-range J's.....post game.

I'd believe he was a great passer even then but I'd guess it wasn't as pronounced until after his injuries. That is NOT to say that he could NOT pass well even then. But he was a STILL a BULL of a player....physical...talented...skilled.

He exhibited GREAT poise as well - when dealing with the referee at around 00:50. If that was Draymond he would've gotten booted.

Didn't David Robinson go 1st in the draft? I know that he was a bit younger than Arvydas but I'd have a hard time believing that Sabas would've gone 2nd to David back then.

Utter shame the NBA couldn't have gotten Prime Sabas. Dude was a MONSTER.

Can we imagine BOSTON getting him in 1986?

EDIT - Missed Eja's choice of Sabas earlier - TP to him.

His team there would've been great as well.

How about her? She'd be a fine Player-Coach AND I'd think she could get a few boards..

She could then use her Magic Lasso on LeBron and make him tell us the key to his success.
