NCAA coaches, including Chuck Person, and Adidas employees among 10 charged from FBI fraud investigation involving payments for funneling NBA prospects to agents, apparel companies.  This could get real ugly.  Bet there are plenty of others sweating bullets right now.

This is just the tip of the iceberg because the FBI got someone to flip. My guess is there could be a ton more to come. Read they were looking hard at the University of Louisville.

Marcus smart  went to ok state then signed with Adidas after entering the league. Wonder if he was paid off under the table. Obviously it could have been a coincidence but this arrest makes you wonder

Not that it matters I'm sure all these guys get paid under the table

The NCAA is a joke and should be disbanded.

Well USC hired Louis Freeh to investigate what happened at their school. That means what will happen is after months and millions of dollars Freeh will come to the conclusion that makes their trustees look totally innocent and unaware, but the investigation won't actually interview any of the principal people involved. You'll see.

So does Andy Enfield - the coach who got Florida Gulf Coast to the Sweet 16 - then bolted for USC get caught up in this?

So where is all this money coming from? Has to be from TV. College sports has become corrupted by immense media revenues. Not that these kids don't deserve a share of the pie. Sure the schools give them free tuition and room and board. But that's peanuts compared to the media revenue these schools are taking in. Heck, the coaches are making 7 figures while college professors are lucky if they are making $80K. It's a bad system, and we pay for it with our cable bills.

Could be, but the Oklahoma State assistant who was charged only began working there this past year.  Prior to that he was at South Carolina, which was implicated today as well.

That said, no disrespect to Smart, but I'd be surprised if Smart didn't get something under the table.  It's an open secret that this happens for the overwhelming majority of top-100 basketball recruits, of which Smart most certainly was one.

The Celtic who might be most directly impacted is not a player, however, but a coach.  Miami was one of the schools identified, and Jay Larranaga's father is the head coach there.

Wasn't Terry Rozier at Louisville when they had that hooker controversy a couple of years ago?

It's primarily coming from Adidas and Nike, and Under Armour to a much lesser extent.  Kids literally choose their schools based on if it's an Adidas school or a Nike school.  I don't understand the business model, but those two companies combine for over $50 billion in revenue per year, so there is A LOT of money.  The media dollars are second-fiddle to the athletic apparel market.

Agents and "financial advisers" also get in on it -- developing a relationship with an 18-year-old by giving his family $50k can pay off in 5 years when he signs a $150 million contract that you get 4 percent of.

Oh yes, Louisville is absolutely involved.  But there were several "anonymous" schools in the report. Miami was "University-7."
