The kid sounds like he did too much LSD or something.

Regardless, so long as he plays well and gets along with teammates, him sounding like a more wordy Carl Everett doesn't bother me so much.

On that Road Trippin podcast he sure as hell sounds serious. I think the semi-backtracking since has sounded insincere and almost as nonsensical as the belief itself. He can't express himself well enough to pass it off as an intentional troll/stunt because it wasn't, he was serious and got caught out, and now he's basically lying to try to save face, and lying badly.

then what this?

A mischaracterization.

Quote
"Look, look. Here it is. All I want to do is be able to have that open conversation," Irving said. "It was all an exploitation tactic. It literally spun the world—your guys' world—it spun it into a frenzy and proved exactly what I thought it would do in terms of how all this works.

"It created a division, or, literally stand up there and let all these people threw tomatoes at me, or have somebody think I’m somehow a different intellectual person because I believe that the Earth is flat and you think the world is round. It created exactly that."

He elaborated on his latest comments.

"It became like, because I think different, does that knock my intellectual capacity or the fact that I can think different things than you?" Irving asked. "That was the intent behind it. Do your own research—don't come to me and ask me. At the end of the day, you’re going to feel and believe the way you want to feel. But don't knock my life over that.

"When I do something, I know my intent. And it proved what I thought it would."

If you watch his interview from yesterday with D'Amico, where they only talked basketball, Irving wasn't weird.  He was straight forward, answered questions directly, and was clearly excited to play for the Celtics and Stevens' system.  He only acts weird when he's asked questions he doesn't want to answer.

I agree, he was perfectly normal yesterday. And he gets weird about and doesn't want to answer flat earth questions because he really does/did believe in it and doesn't know how to back away from it.

No...  he was messing with the media for his own reasons/entertainment.  Maybe that's weird in itself, but that's all it is.  He doesn't really believe the earth is flat.  It's obvious from his interviews.  This topic is as absurd as the statement which is likely his general point.

I'd rather the kid think the world is flat than spend so much energy trolling for attention.

As Roy pointed out above, no, it's very, very far from obvious. It's pretty much the exact opposite of obvious.

He wasn't concocting some social experiment when he was on the Road Trippin podcast, he was just shooting the **** with teammates on a plane.

At least he defends something

lol beat me to it.

He's going to be a fun (and talented) Leader for us, along with GH and Big Al.

He can keep on thinking whatever as long as we're playing into June of 2018.

It's hard to imagine someone born in Australia, who flies in airplanes frequently, could consider that possible for more than a moment.
