I guess the Lakers really want to impede Zubac's development

I can't imagine Bogut is looking too good these days seeing how he can only latch onto a lowly team like the Lakers. He seems like an obvious choice for at least a playoff contender. Hopefully he doesn't shock the world and lift LA out of the basement.

Maybe he went to the team offering the biggest check instead of a vet min deal on a contender?

It's partially-guaranteed, probably at/just above the vet minimum.  If that's the best he could get... ouch
Being able to stay healthy for one full game or more is rather underrated on our forum :P

He's a perfect fit for LA.

They have Brook Lopez and Zubac as their main bigs who can probably cover 70 games between them, so all they need is somebody to cover 12 games or so that they miss.

Bogut's body can probably only handle 12 games, so all they need to do is coordinate them wisely lol

Why?

Bogut is just there wait in the retiree's locker room with Luol Deng so they can be next in line for an assistant coach job.

Both guys are in their mid 30's right?  Plenty old enough to coach the group of 19-22 year olds on this Lakers roster.

Bogut was chasing a ring last year, what's he chasing this year?
Have you seen the women in Los Angeles?

Yes I have, a lot of plastic.

Bogut speaks Croatian and plays the same position. His signing with the Lakers sounds more like a nice weather/no playoffs/new opportunities direction in his career.

I actually believe that he will help Zubac become a better pro, and not take too much playing time from him. Bogut will log about 600 season minutes this year IMO. Zubac logged 600+ last year.

there are approximately 4000 (3936 + some OT's) total regular season minutes at center:

Lopez - 2250 mins (75x 30 min)
Bogut - 600 (40x 15 min)

It leaves some 1150 of the remaining minutes for Zubac or others (small ball ideas).
More than enough.
But TBH Zubac is not some unique amazing basketball talent. He is good, but not great and he will get his chances. Even more in the case, that he proves he is a starting caliber material.

I was hoping he would sign with the Celtics.  Health not withstanding, his skill set would have been a good fit.

What sucks about him signing with the Lakers is that it makes them better.  We all know he can't stay healthy, but when he does play, the Lakers will have a higher chance of winning games.  Since we own their pick next year in the tiny 2-5 window, we need LA to be as bad as possible.  I worry they might be good enough to hang inside that 8-12 range in the west.  I stress might.

Are the Lakers better than any team in The West?

Probably Phoenix.  Don't think I'd give them a leg up on anyone else.

But Phoenix has Booker who can at least get you buckets. I guess the Lakers could have a better record than Phoenix but it will come down to health.
