This is a personal hypothetical I need to get off my chest, in essence I have complete control over the NBA and FIBA and how I would structure things.

1. I would reduce the games to 64 in the regular season, Daryl Morey stated earlier in the season that when the NBA started playing 82 games in 1967 they just made it, there was no logic in it and the game was less athletic/intense as now.

2. League Structure with two expansion teams, Divisions will be spit into 4 groups of 4, with Minneapolis moved into the East

EASTERN CONFERENCE

NORTHEAST:Toronto, Boston, New York, Brooklyn,
CENTRAL:Cleveland, Detroit, Philadelphia, Washington
SOUTHERN:Miami, Atlanta, Charlotte, Orlando
NORTHWESTMinneapolis, Chicago, Milwaukee, Indiana,

WESTERN CONFERENCE

NORTHWEST: Portland, Vancouver, Seattle, Utah
PACIFIC: Golden State, L.A. Clippers, Sacramento, L.A. Showtime
SOUTHWEST: San Antonio, Memphis, Houston, New Orleans
CENTRAL: Denver, Phoenix, Oklahoma City, Dallas

3. Vancouver Grizzlies, Utah Salters, New Orleans Jazz, Memphis Kings (Elvis & wrestling), Sacramento Royals (original name), Seattle Sonics, L.A Showtime, Minneapolis Lakers, Washington Districts

4. Playoffs will be the the same as MLB and NFL in that the winner of each division makes the playoffs and the highest 4 teams in each conference makes the wildcard playoffs. Also less is more so playoffs will be 3 games (higher ranked team has home court) only as you will see more opportunities for upsets and the ratings will be higher if each game will mean significantly more.

5. Luxury Tax is actually punishing small market teams and rewarding cheapness, perhaps put in a tax exemption for drafted players only.

6. To prevent teams from having too many jerseys retired, each team will establish there own personal hall of fame inside their arena or practice facility, thus allowing jersey retirements to be for only the very special, Russell, Jordan, Magic ect.

7. Olympics Basketball will be the same as soccer in at it will be under 23 competition with 2 over age players per squad, this will break up the super friends type of situations and allow youth to come through.

  • STAND FIRM, SAY NO TO VIBE MEN
I think we'll eventually unretire the numbers and hang the names on the rafters instead unless they were truly special, like Bird/Russell.

I hope so because it does seem to diminish the honour.

I'd allow actual defense again.
