1 year, 4.1 million

Noel may have turned down 4 years, 70 million already this summer (there are conflicting reports on that one)

Well there we go... I give him some credit for backing himself but he's going to be in the same situation next summer.

I absolutely do not get some fans' obsession with him. For under $10m a year I like him as a player but the kid wants to get paid big and whichever team acquiesces will be hamstrung for years. No teams bit this summer though so at least there is some sense out there...

Makes you wonder if the C's should have offered him an exception LOL.

Ballsy. We'll see if it pays off for him (like it did for Monroe)

I do like that players are proving more willing to take the QO if they can't get what they want in RFA, the option is there for a reason
I'm bitter.

Could Dallas match that?

His RFA status makes that impossible and even if it was possible, Dallas just matches anyway.

Due to RFA status we never could have had him for this price.

We had to offer 2 or 3 seasons and Dallas matches anything reasonable.

Smart decision.

I don't know.  To recoup his money over the next four years he needs to sign for around $22 million per year in his next deal. There's a lot of risk.

Thats a loss for Dallas in the longrun. Either he walks next year or gets a huge contract. I am surprised that the Mavs couldn't close the deal with a 3 year 60mil, last year player option or another kind of a shorter term deal to secure him a bit longer. He switched his agent to Clutch sports that has always played agressive in the rookie extention talks. Think of Bloedsoe and T.T.

Noel without a doubt has a big role in their plans for the next season. His career so far has had mixed results with injuries and poor team structure. I expect 2 dunks, blocks and steals per game from him if he manages to stay healthy. Now with Noel in the fold at least for a year, Dallas is a sleeper playoff team in the west.

- Elite coach in Rick
- Good structure and team succes for the past 15 years.
- Potential star in Dennis Smith
- Proven veteran 3&D help at the wings in Barnes and Mathews
- Good roller, vertical spacer and defensively active center in Noel
- Shooters at guards in Seth Curry and Yogi
- More guards that somehow produce, Barea and Harris
- And don't forget on Dirk. He can still put the ball in the hoop, that jumper is still automatic and makes defenders gravitate toward him.

They would need to outseed 3 out of 6 these west teams to make it: Portland, Utah, Clippers, Nola, Denver and Memphis.
All of these teams, as well as Dallas, have their issues and could dissapoint.
I will root for them to make the playoffs, but it would require, reasonable team health and Smith jr. to produce right away. I like them mainly cause of Dirk but also as they have proven to be a competitive franchise throughout the years.

Assuming he actually was offered 4 years at 17.5M per, it is an ego over brains decision.  No team is going to offer him enough to make up that loss.  Teams are going to have even less cap space next offseason that they did this offseason.  I think his offers will top out at 4 years at 15M per and that assumes good health.

There are teams that would have offered him a good sized contract this summer that didn't because the Mavs would have matched.  Many of those teams will still have that option next summer (Brooklyn for example).

Frankly, I think a team like the Lakers or Nets, should have just offered him a 1 year contract at full max and forced Dallas to pay him that for a year.

Heck the Nets still have decent room right now, Noel's team could have gone to them and said hey offer us a 1 year contract at the room you have left.  We know the Mavs will probably match, but next summer when Noel is unrestricted we will give you 1st opportunity to talk to him and we will remember this for all our other clients.
