Just curious, but what are the Cavs fans saying about this?

They love it as they should.
Ask them in year.  IT is one year rental, he wants max $
Lebron is gone in year, crowder becomes his replacement  :-\
Zizic pans out in 3 years or never makes it
Draft pick who knows where the pick falls or if player ever gets to all star level

If LeBron leaves this trade was a win. Having a dude like IT that will gladly play with LeBron may affect that though which I do not like. Why try to appease LeBron? Should have just let them crumble within.

No !!!!!!!!!!

I don't want that head-case on my team. Anyone who said what he said about wanting his "own" team to be the star of does not belong in a Celtic uniform.

And losing the 2018 pick is devastating. That was one of our 10-year window pieces.

Genuinely the worst trade I can remember from a Boston standpoint. I wasn't too happy about moving the #1, but after finding out JT was the guy all along I was happy with it.

This, however, is incredibly risky. A lot has to go right for us to win the trade. IT has to either come off worse from the injury (possible), not function well in Lue's offence (not sure about that), or he bolts somewhere after this season (again, possible).

Zizic has to never become that Gortat like big man, otherwise we're going to have to deal with that bruiser down the track (one Gortat is already enough).

And Brooklyn has to end up in the 7-12 range.

If all that happens, we've done well. If it doesn't, then we're in trouble.

Imagine if the Cavs got Bagley :-\
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

Lets take each of the individual pieces and evaluate individually:

Isaiah Thomas: worth a mid to high lottery 1st round pick
Jae Crowder: worth a mid lottery pick given contract
Ante Zizic: most have deemed if he was in this year's draft to be a top 10 pick
Brooklyn 2018: Top 5 in deepest draft in last 2 decades (please let Brooklyn pick drop to 5-10 range to make us all feel better about this)

Kyrie Irving is a great player but not that great. I'm worried that we not only got smoked on this trade, but that we improved CLE both near and long term. I leave you with 5 names:

Porter Jr.
Bamba
Ayton
Bagley
Doncic

The Lakers pick better convey this year or what a fleece.

I'd have had a hard time giving up the BKN pick in isolation for Kyrie.
Me too.

The more I think about Isaiah's hip and the Brooklyn/LA question the more I like the trade.

I hate this trade.

I hate it because IT embodied being a Celtic.
I hate it because we give up the Brooklyn pick.
I hate it because we give up Crowder.
I hate it because we give up Zizic (it was nice having a young big for all of 7 weeks.)
I hate it because it increases the chance that LeBron will stay in Cleveland.
I hate it because it gives the Cavs a huge asset with which to trade for another star.
I hate it because of the comparative trades made for star players in the past six months.
I hate it because the Warriors are still the better team.
I hate it because the Cavs are probably still the better team.
I hate it because I don't like Kyrie.

I hate this trade.

I think that about sums it up lol C's didn't improve enough to make it worth it.

Irving > than maxing out a 5 7" player with a shakey hip .  i just never thought Danny would give him a max .....even if he deserved one.  Maxing a semi unknown major injury short older player has sounded ver risky since the end of last season .

Trading IT solves a huge argument ...what to do with him.

Crowder ...not needed with Morris , Tatum and Brown .....expendable asset

Zizic .....oh well .....

Nets pick hurts to loose ...but i don't believe it will be top 5 .

Also.....Irving is a bigger FA draw than IT

Hayward , Irving .......and next Davis .

Stevens .....now with Hayward and irving in his arsenal is going to be fun fun fun ......

lets go !

Isn't it great when you trade an all star and top pick and a fine young prospect and a good player on a great contract you can get a less good all star who is a cancer?

Pretty crazy how mixed the opinions are

Kyrie is an extremely polarizing player. If you think he's a 25 year-old superstar, you love it, even if you hate giving up Isaiah. If you think Kyrie is good, but extremely overrated (raises hand), you (I) think this is as bad as it gets.
Isaiah, you were lightning in a bottle.

I think it was a solid move. Crowder and Zizic are not irreplaceable (and in Zizic's case there's not much to replace). Crowder is an excellent role player, but he's still just a role player. He would've taken time away from the youngins who have a much higher ceiling than he does.

The worst part was the 2018 pick, but the C's got back the best player (in terms of age and contract). The way I view the trade is:

IT + 2018 pick + Filler for Kyrie Irving.

IT = KI.
The filler makes the salaries work.
The 2018 pick is compensation for the Cavs taking on an older, expiring, and injured player who's expecting a max contract after next season.

I think it was a solid deal all around.
