Just read this in Yahoo Sports. Per Peter Vecsey. That was Jackson's plan.

Wonder if Danny would have agreed to that trade. I think I would have.

I prefer the pick we got as well as Tatum. Although the zinger is a great player

Vecsey just makes things up.

Maybe not in this case. It seems as though they have a good relationship.

Phil Jackson to Peter Vecsey: Peter, I heard your message via voice mail. I’m glad you’re going to get back in the mix and begin writing again. It’s a new world out there, but I don’t consider it journalism. However, sports writing has always been a mix of opinionating and you were one of the best. For my own part, I’m not able, yet, to begin opining. However, I’m still on hold about Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline. just went down the past 3 years of Knick basketball. In that regard, I’m not angry, but disappointed I couldn’t fulfill the mission. Winning is a priority in NY and I couldn’t get those guys into at least a 500% season so we could get some free space to rebuild.

I was under the impression that Jackson would have taken Ball at 1 but the deal was for more than just the #1 pick. They said his asking price was unrealistic. I imagine it was 1, Brown, Nets 2018, and AB for KP.

I don't know how to begin to place a probability on this idea being true.

If this rumor is true, it would be tough to hear that Danny passed on Porzingis. It's effectively the gamble of Tatum being better than Porzingis. I really like Tatum, but I'm going with the Zinger.

I think it's fair to say that Danny really likes Tatum. I also think Dolan etc really like Porzingis.

I doubt it made it to Danny's choice. As soon as Phil spoke someone would have shut it down. Probably contributed to him being fired

Ha. I can believe Phil wanted to steal Ball from the Lakers. But from the talk at the time, he was asking for more than the #1 for Porzingis. Which would make a deal less likely.

The Celtics made out just fine with Tatum. They have improved a 1000% up front.

I see a lot of "I'd do this in a heartbeat"... and I've yet to read what was the actual proposed trade. I mean, #1 pick for Porzingis is a bad deal in itself.

Yeah, exactly.

It's likely that NYK wanted way more than just the #1. If they asked for Brown + #1 people would loathe Ainge - and rightfully so. Doing the #1 for Porzingis is an okay deal, but I prefer the deal we got.
