Hey guys,

In the dead of summer, and as a draft fiend trying to make post #1,000 in 10 years memorable (at least to me), I'm wondering who you all like best in the 2018 draft outside the current top 5 guys.  That means no Bagley, Porter, Doncic, Ayton or Bamba.

I don't know a ton and haven't scouted potential picks #6-10 but they can be found here: http://www.draftexpress.com/nba-mock-draft/2018/

I'm hoping the Nets pick lands #1 and we can draft one of the Juniors, Bagley/Porter, but I'm trying to prepare for 'the worst' - that that the Lakers pick doesn't convey, and that the Nets finish better than bottom 3, and we're stuck in the #6-10 range.

Guys like Miles Bridges, Robert Williams, Wendell Carter, Jaren Jackson & Mitchell Robinson look to be potential Tier 2 F/C prospects in the 6-10 range, plus Sexton & Duval at PG as options to replace IT after his upcoming deal.  Thoughts?

Feel free to post videos & links about guys besides Bagley/Porter/Doncic/Ayton/Bamba and if desired, use this thread throughout the season for top of the draft targets outside the top 5.

Bridges is the obvious name, as he was a projected lottery pick and there was a lot of surprise when he didn't enter the draft.  He is definitely the player with the best chance of cracking the top 5 in the (not completely unlikely) event that someone in the top 5 disappoints this year.

But I'm personally not too interested in picks outside the top 5, as that means the Nets pick has disappointed.

Going to look into bridges Williams Carter and Jackson

I was reading about Robinson and how he was a top 10 high school recruit. He could be a grab if he falls to late 1st pick

If nets pick is in 6-10 range, I've heard good things about bridges and williams. Carter gets mixed reviews

Trevon Duval is unreal physically and has great handles.  Should be a monster defensively as well.  Needs to improve jumper.

No doubt. I'm even greedier, I'd kill for top 2 but I'd be disappointed to pick below #3-4. I want a choice between Ayton, Bamba & Doncic, or at the very least have a choice between 2 of them.

However, in case the Nets finish 4th or 5th worst and get the 7th or 8th pick, I'm looking for a reason to be optimistic even in a 'bad scenario' like that (55 win team + high-mid lottery pick = still good.

Smith Jr and Giles  were projected to go 1 and 2. Things can change although I do agree with you

Robert Williams.  I was surprised that he returned for his sophomore season.  He would have been top 10.  Very athletic.  Very long.  Good size.  Good defender.  Lots of blocks.  Good rebounder.  Showed a bit of a post game.  Willing passer but with varying success.  Needs to work on his jumper but not hesitant to take it.

He and the Texas A&M team overall were hampered by very poor guard play.  They are supposed to have a good PG this year.   His highlight from a Kentucky game.

I think the 2nd tier of this upcoming draft could be underrated a bit

I like Wendell Carter, asides from some questionable hair colouring.
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

Jaren Jackson and Wendell Carter. Jackson might be the type of player that drives me crazy but his upside is very high with his ability to shoot and defend at the rim.

Assuming that we consolidate the pg position before the draft, I would love to get Andrew Jones from Texas. Athletic pg who can guard multiple positions and can get to the hoop.

I have only read DE stuff on the top ten players in the draft and haven't seen any in game action(hate scouting through highlight reels), but Bridges has to be the pick.

Why would Bridges have to be the pick?

I think Williams or Sexton will be the pick but that depends on how Carter, Knox, Jackson, etc look in college. It happens every year where a player comes on strong and ends up being drafted higher than expected. It's going to be a very interesting college season especially of Bagley reclassifies. The next 2 drafts will make or break the Celtics as far as being a championship team or just being a playoff team. The Celtics need to land a superstar in the form of Bagley or Porter and the Celtics would be championship contenders for years. Their future also depends on how Tatum and Brown develop. Very exciting times.

Robert Williams, Wendell Carter, Nick Richards. We should def be able to get one of these guys if the ping pong balls don't bounce well with the BKN pick.
