Joel Embiid revealed he expects to be ready for the start of training camp with the Philadelphia 76ers.

Embiid is doing non-contact drills but hasn't been cleared yet to play five-on-five.

Embiid is recovering from a torn meniscus in his left knee that required surgery.

Precisely.

If this was the season, I suspect he would be playing, but since we are still a ways away from camp even starting, why have him play contact drills.  It makes no sense.  Just wait for camp.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Interesting comments following the initial Tweet from what appeared to be Sixer fans.  They were defensive about how everyone else seems to be cheering for Embiid to be injured.  I guess there is some truth to that stemming from backlash to the tanking.  No one wants to see tanking succeed.  It is not about not wanting the Sixers to succeed.

IMO he wont last long in this league. Hes played 30 games so far? And he got injured while playing on a count..

Big men with injury problems rarely last long in the league

Lol....It has been this same song and dance every off season.

Then what? "Why play in TC, just wait for pre-season. It makes no sense."

"Why play in pre-season, just wait for the real season. It makes no sense."

yeah, exactly, he simply will be always half injured or they will always perform extreme caution with him.
But what a great player can he be, instant superstar, the best C in the game.

What's his over under on games played next year, 45?

LOL!

Will Embiid ever be healthy?  Not the horse I would want to tie my wagon to.

Right. I don't want him (or any player) to get injured, but in his case, I simply expect it to happen (again and again, until he retires). And it certainly won't hurt my feelings to see their tanking scheme fail.

The only potential problem with this is that it is the 76ers medical staff that has a truly awful track record the last 2-3 years (including their updates about injuries). However, I agree with others that the most likely thing is that he is not playing 5-5 because it is a pointless risk for him and they are saving him for meaningful basketball.

He said he would be ready for training camp, that is all that matters.  why would he need to be playing in 5 on 5 contact drills right now.  It really does make no sense.
