Wiggins was traded for Love and could end up teaming up with him to form Cleveland's new core.
Wiggins was supposed to play with LeBron and Kyrie, but LeBron the GM decided he'd rather have the ready made Love.
Love, Wiggins, and LeBron would give them hope they could beat the Warriors.
Kyrie is friends with Butler and with Karl Town's, that's about as good as a 1,2,3, punch you have in the league. It's a better blend of talent.

I feel like that's the move to make for the Cavs.

I don't see it happening. Wiggins and Irving are basically same player (high scorers that dont play defense), however Wiggins is a wing and also has a more team friendly contract. Unless cavs include picks or some value, I can't see wolves trading Wiggins for Irving. Even with picks it'd be hard to see the  reasoning for the wolves

Because Irving is an NBA Champion. He's also Boys with Jimmy Butler. He was Avg 6 APG with LeBron. What can he do full time 10 APG?

Wiggins and Butter are too similar. Take the blue Chip point guard, blue Chip center, and Jimmy Butler that's a better foundation imo.

He played 3 years without LeBron, and never topped 6.1 assists. So no, not 10 APG.

It really just depends on whether Minnesota thinks Teague and Irving can be a starting back court.  If they don't, then they have no incentive to make the trade.  If they do, then it seems like the most likely trade to be made.  Wiggins, Aldrich, and Jones for Irving and Felder (it works without Felder, but Minny needs someone aside from Wiggins and Aldrich in the trade and Jones makes the least on their team, so I figured if he is included it would also make sense to give them back a young pg so I added Felder who the Cavs would have cut anyway most likely).

So Wolves post that trade (with just 11 players under contract)

PG - Teague, Felder
SG - Irving, Crawford
SF - Butler
PF - Gibson, Dieng, Payne
C - Towns, Bjelica, Patton

That is a pretty interesting team.  Clearly they need to fill out the roster, but I think they could put together some decent enough backup wings on the free agent market including just bringing back Rush and Muhammad.

Cavs post trade (16 players under contract, so someone will be cut - likely Tavares)
PG - Rose, Calderon, Jones
SG - Wiggins, Smith, Shumpert
SF - James, Korver, Jefferson, Osman
PF - Love, Frye, Green
C - Thompson, Aldrich, Tavares

A pretty poor defensive backcourt, though Irving was a bad defender so they aren't much different.  Seems like a good enough trade for the Cavs, especially with Wiggins locking in that extension (so he can't leave at the end of the year).
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

I just don't see Thibs being very enamored of Irving.

Never.  LA totally invested in Lonzo Ball. Also how would that go with their recruitment of LBJ 2018? LOL

Maybe that's the master plan ;)

What does Thibodeau think of Irving's defence?

No they aren't the same player at all.  Irving is a ball dominant PG who has proven to have big shot capabilities in crucial times.  He also is a far better passer than Wiggins.  Wiggins has none of those traits.  Also, he's not a PG and really only an average ball handler.  Just because they both score doesn't mean they're the same player basically.

I assume he meant in terms of impact on the game, not their actual playing style nor physical profile. Wiggins' impact on games is quite comparable to young Kyrie though.

TP Agreed.  If they traded for Kyrie you can kiss any shot at Lebron good bye unless you think that Kyrie and LBJ are masterminds and planning on partnering up in LA while forcing the Cavs to trade Kyrie to LA.  Yeah didn't think so.  Kyrie will not be in LA.  The surprise team are the Wolves.  They have a ton of talent and that's Town's team.  Sorry Kyrie but no matter where you go you will be 2nd fiddle unless it's Miami.  NY is Porzingis team

If you piece the 4 teams together, he chose home i.e. NY and then 3 teams with great coaches and very stable front offices.  It is clear he wants stability at the top and likely just doesn't want to play with James anymore.  Being the man is secondary to those other things.
