The Phoenix Suns offered James Jones a front office post immediately after retirement.

Should we make such a move with Pierce now? And if so, which post would he excel in?

He seems pretty keen to have a media role for now, not sure if we'd be able to lure him away from that.

That being said, Pierce in any role would be awesome.
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

Pierce has an arrogance about him.

Sometimes he talks out of his butt.

Not sure about Pierce in a front office spot.

You think Ainge doesn't have an arrogant bone in his body?  If Pierce is interested in the front office, I'm sure the Celtics would give him a chance to learn, but I doubt they'd hand over the reigns to him before they gave them to Zarren.  And Pierce is a competitor, and would work hard to learn as much as he can.

I went with no.  I don't like the idea of creating a spot that doesn't presently exist just to bring a former player into the fold.  Now if a spot opens up that fits his skills and that he would want to do, then that is a different situation.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

this.

he'd likely be an asset to the team in some capacity but the team and PP should take the time to figure out what that position would be.

Yes we should.

Depends whether he's prepared to work vs get by on his name.  He's talked about getting into management and is passionate about basketball so someone will give him a chance.  Here certainly makes sense but it's also not the type of organization that's into ceremonial positions.  And success as a player doesn't necessarily translate to success in management.

But no one will know until he actually tries it.

I imagine he will make a lot more money as an analyst than he would in our front office (at least at his current level of expertise). I would love to have Pierce on board the Cs train forever, but let him enjoy his retirement and be a television personality for a bit before he gets into the daily, behind the scenes grind of working within the organization.

Yes, every time Danny and company tries to sign a potential FA, Paul should be by his side. Paul is well liked, and respected by players in the league.

Paul Pierce would have given away the farm for Butler.

No thanks.
